Dog Shampoo Recommendations?

My dog is doing a lot of scratching (does not have fleas though) and I'm wondering if anyone can recommend a good anti-itch shampoo or other product. I've looked on the PetSmart and PetCo websites and see several different anit-itch shampoos but I'm really not sure which one to try. If you know of any that are better than others, please let me know. TIA!

If your dog has no medical reason for the dry skin then try something with an oatmeal base to calm the skin.

My one dog had dry skin so bad that he was scratching himself raw in places, after many trips to the vet and buying products, one of the vets told me that he needed more protein in his diet. So now he gets boiled or baked chicken thighs once or twice a week and it solved the problem! And no more pills. You can buy a family pack of chicken thighs for under 6.00.

My sheltie mix scratches alot also. I have started giving him benedryl every day and it seems to help. I also give my dogs brewers yeast tablets every day. has helped my minpin with his flaky skin.

i am also dealing with the same thing and took my stbernard to the vet and i give her benadryl 2x a day. I think its 1 25mg pill for every 25lbs. Its the regular pink pill benadryl not the other combinations they have now.

I bought some stuff from the vet that includes tar/coal. It is AWESOME!! My chi has been on antibiotics the last month for a skin irritation and the shampoo helps tremendously! I've been using it on my boxer also and both of their coats are smooth and shiney. :yay:
