Dog sledding

Having a Malamute, I've often wondered what it felt like to be pulled by a pack of dogs along a trail. Thought this could only happen in the snow. But Mals are not sled pullers, Huskys are. While trying to find neat places to take a vacation next year, I found this place: Welcome to Husky Power Dogsledding!. Sounds really cool. If we end up going to Deep Creek next July, we'll have to check this place out for sure!

You can teach your dog to pull a cart. :yahoo: Now you may not have a dog sled team but it will give your dog a job! They dont have to be huskies to do this.... there is a Bloodhound on a SAR team our West that is part of a dog sled team.... now I would have never thought a Bloodhound would pull a cart.... (well I should not say that because they do pull well but maybe I would not want them to be the lead dog because god knows where you would end up going!!! LOL)

A girl I know built a cart for her dogs to learn to pull and you can even teach them to pull you as well!!

It'd be fun to teach a dog to pull though! I'm sure they'd love it, too!

I think mine would be great at it. We've tried to get her to pull our sons in the wagon but the noise freaks her out (or so it seemed). We can't get her involved in competitive weight pulling though as it's against the breeder's contract. SoMd needs to get a good snow fall so we can try out her pulling sleds. No noise associated with that. :yay:

Who in their right mind would want to carry all that food for a team of Malamutes?!?! LOL.

Seriously though, you can try skijourning. All you need is a good pulling harness, and you get to go for a drag through the snow face first several times until the two of you get the hang of it. My Dobes don't like cold, so we do roller blades.... at 30 MPH it's a rush :)
