dog sleeping question

There's a dog that sleeps with me everynight and insists on sleeping under the covers. It messes the bed up and is somewhat irratating but I can't stay awake all night to make sure she doesn't go under. I'm somewhat clausterphobic myself so it freaks me out wondering if she's getting air under their on her side. She's a rescue dog. Could this mean that she is used to sleeping in a crate at night? Is this what perhaps she'd prefer instead of the comforts of my bed? Its not that she's cold or anything, no matter how hot or cold, she still insists on sleeping under the covers and hidden. Any suggestions as to why? I'm afraid I might sit on her some mornings when I'm getting ready for work, she's a little thing so sometimes I'm not sure if she's back in bed or walking the halls.

Because dogs like to curl up under the covers, that is why.

Only one dog under the covers with you...lucky woman.. :huggy: :quitcha#####in: :lmao:

Not really #####in : ) Was wondering WHY the dog does this... do you think the prior owners had her in a crate - is this symptomatic with dogs that have been raised with crates? I have none around. Should I get her one?

It might be just that she feels secure and safe with the covers on. What about getting a crate to keep in the bedroom. Make that crate her bed with blankets in it.

chihuahua's are famous for this. I grew up with one that always had to be under a blanket somewhere and my friend has one now that will crawl under the covers every chance he gets.

They are pack animals..they sleep in a den..she loves you ...you are her pack..it means she is very happy and healthy she would probably cry all night if you put her in a crate after she has been sleeping with you..Happy dog.. :huggy: Just giving you a hard time..

Thats what I was thinking... by nature, she's rattled easily... quick to bark and defend and she also trembles when people raise their voices at each other and fight around her and literally she shakes and pants really hard during thunderstorms. Maybe you are right, she feels secure and safe there, but I was hoping with this new environment for her, she'd feel secure and safe enough. I'll get her a crate this weekend, put some blankets in there. I just don't know that I can do your suggestion of putting the dog, blankets and crate all underneath my blanket on my bed at night, she'd be happy yes, but I really don't know that my bed is big enough for all that AND me.

I think you misunderstood me. Don't put the crate in the bed, but beside the bed. That way she is still near you, but in her own den. My dog sleep in the bed with me, and cuddles right up. When he is cold he goes under the blankets to. I just sleep through him moving around.

Boy, you are a rude one.

1) You said "all you keep asking" which implies I've asked something over and over and over and over. Not correct - only TWO of my posts in this thread are asking a question. If that's too much for you then don't read my thread. :)

2) I'm NOT big on crates and its the reason I don't OWN a crate. I was going to get one this weekend to make the dog happy if that's what SHE wanted. I want the dog to feel secure and safe not fretful and scared like its hiding under blankets. I asked if this is from prior crate training and if it was a normal response. I wouldn't know because MY personal perference is NOT crating dogs and if its not a normal reaction from previously crated dogs, then maybe its something I'm doing or the environment that is scaring the dog. In case you got hung up on the fact I had a whopping two posts asking questions, I'll quickly recap it for you - I asked my question and someone suggested getting a crate. I said I'd get one over the weekend and see if she feels better in there.

3) I was wondering WHY the dog was doing this NOT asking how to crate the dog. In case you didn't notice, the thread wasn't titled "Should I Crate my Dog at Night", it's aptly titled "Dog Sleeping Question". I got my answer, I was done with this thread until you bumped it with your absolutely useless, insignificant, valuless , entirely non-helpful and non-supportive post, let alone your your inability to corroborate one way or the other or even sticking with the topic at hand. And yes, I am having a nice day. :huggy:

Thank you, that is a good suggestion. I'm glad to know this is not out of the norm for any dog - crate or no crate. I was begining to think maybe it was me or something.
