Dog, Vixen, and pups

Supper's Ready
Learned this weekend we have a gray fox family in our woods...

While sitting outside sanding windows, I saw one of the adults grab a squirrel from under our bird feeder. Tossed it around like a cat playing with a mouse, before noticing I was nearby. Then when I grabbed the camera to try getting a shot, s/he took it back to the woods. Around 20 minutes later, I saw the other adult sniffing around the spot where it happened. I guess the smell confirmed lunch was being served, and off it went trotting back to the woods.

Yesterday we were sitting outside when s/he returned, only this time with the cubs (we saw two of them, though there could be more). Guessing the cubs were getting a little local area orientation..."okay, see this bird feeder? This is where we found that tasty squirrel the other day"

When I went to get the camera, the cubs went back to the woods. :damnit:

S/he noticed me pointing the camera and stopped, then started barking at me. Looks like I might not have many squirrels for long.

I'll take a look to see how the pics turned out later, then I'll post them.

Cool! But they scare me...rabies..:jameo:

My friend lives in Alexandria on the Potomac. For the last few years she's had a fox family living on her property and every year she gets to see the kits develop. She says that at least two every year have been snatched up by an eagle. :frown:

Well, the pics were crappy. I'll try to get better ones...shouldn't be difficult to get better than these. The first one s/he has the squirrel, the second I'm getting barked at.
