Little ol' Me
Has anyone ever dealt with a dog that constantly licks? If she is not licking herself (paws, butt, etc.) she licking the couch, recliner, etc. It's so bad I wake up from it in the middle of the night and have to put her out of the room....

TIA

Sometimes dogs lick because they hurt and can't do anything to make the hurt go away. I learned this when my cousin's husbands police dog developed arthritis. You might want to take him to the vet for a once over. :huggy:

Allergies, or a bac. infection. I have spent 100's on my lab for this, check the dogs ears too.

she does have bad bacteria that grows in her ears (has had it most of her life) we have spent thousands of dollars trying to clear it up but even the vets are stumped, if we put her on steriods it clears up completly but the day you take her off it comes right back just as bad. However she never did this licking thing, it drives me insane the sound and the wet spots she leaves all over my furniture.

Hmm never thought about that Arthritis
Can a vet tell if they have arthritis like a human?

yes they can. they will move there legs and stuff in different directions and do different things to see if the dog shows any signs of pain. they did that with one of my cats

Well, what food are you feeding?

Switching to a higher quality food might help. My bichon used to chew her feet until they were raw and bleeding and she had terrible ear infections. I switched her to PetGuard "Lifespan" dry and canned food (available at Woodburns or petfooddirect.com) and her feet are perfect and her ears normal again.

YOu'll pay more than most foods but it will save you vet bills in the long run!

There are also other good foods out there. Check out The Dog Food Project - How does your Dog Food Brand compare? to help you learn which ones are the best.

That would be my suggestion to start. Good luck.
