Dogs and Cats

I will be introducing virgins (yes) two males, one a feline and one a canine into a new household next week.

It will be a new home for the feline.

Has anybody ever done this?

Are there any pointers to make the transition easier?

Neither have dealt with a dog/cat cat/dog.

My kitty likes to go outside, but he has only known his current home and I'm afraid he will run away.

I'm . So there will now be a new cat in your house? You already have a cat? Just don't stress about introductions. Things might be hairy for a bit, but they'll settle in. Just give them time. :yay:

My experience in moving a feline is just allow it to get used to the inside of the house for a day or two, so it learns where the food is, and that should be fine. Also the cat should be able to take care of itself with dog, unless it's a big and agressive dog. My cat let the dogs know who was boss real fast. Didn't take them long to become friends.

My two cats and my one little dog all act like one big pack of kids. I have one indoor /outdoor cat and I kept him in for a few weeks to let him get adjusted and then I let him out. My dog also had to get acclimated to the rules of the new land. This was a year ago.

My baby girl kitty is an indoor girl and she just gets to watch it all from the window. Take it slow and maybe keep them separate if possible if you are not there.

Then when you are all at home try it in small doses with all family member's in the house. That way if one person's pet versus the other wants to flail their tail. The voice of the master can shut it down. Good luck and congrats though and best of luck in all ventures.:huggy:

Also a big consideration about the outdoors would be how close you might be to busy roads. Pets have been known to make very long trecks back to where they used to live, just out of habit.

Yoda hates the cat, the cat hates Yoda. Yoda barks at the cat, the cat hisses. This went on for about two weeks. They are finally figuring out their boundaries, i.e., the cat is starting to come in and stare Yoda down and Yoda is starting to be afraid. Takes a few weeks, but they adjust. Cat now comes in when Yoda is in the room and roams freely, somewhat. The cat will be dominant. The dog and cat may have initial issues, but the cat will put the dog in its place, quickly, and then it will be over with.

I don't think, in your case, there will be an issue.

I'm moving into a new home with an established canine and my soon to be displaced indoor/ outdoor feline.

The funny thing is, both of their names are "Gizmo"

The established canine is comfortable with me, but I'm afraid my little baby might go nuts and try to run away.

Gizmo (the dog...hates cats..thanks Dutch)

My Gizmo has never been in contact with a dog.

You really should consider keeping Gizmo indoors for about a month. I think that is around about the magic number, so they loose their sense of smell and desire to return home.

You never know... they may just become best friends.

You know, I have my fair share of animal :drama: around here. :lmao: But, they all manage to exist together. My troublemaker just went to bed so all is at peace, for the moment!

:lmao: Keep that cat in for a month? You've met him.

Maybe we should do a psychological thing and just flood him. Bring all of your animals over...bring a twelve pack. :buddies:

Can you try to change one pet's name to Gizzy and leave the other one Gizmo? It may take some time and patience, but try it with a treat or a pet and see how it goes. It also works better if Gizzy is the girl.:smoochy:

The problem is they are both boys. One (mine) is neutered and he loves getting it in the butt. I don't hold it against him.

I have always called both "Gizmo" "Gizzy" and "Giz".

I will be taking the canine Gizmo to get his nuts taken out. For some reason, male owners have a problem getting the nuts cut off their pets but not on their own....go figure. Stereotype or me just being a #####? Child support must hurt. Dogs reproducing are fine. WTF?

My Gizmo can rub butts as much as he wants to, and the other Gizmo can as well, once I get his balls chopped off.

Gotcha. Does the cat have claws? I'm sure a few swats will have the canine Gizmo backing off.

I would definitely leave the cat inside for a while, even if he hates it. It's better than having him run way. :huggy:
