Dogs licked his blood!

1 Kings 22:29 So the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat king of Judah went up to Ramoth Gilead. 30 The king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, “I will enter the battle in disguise, but you wear your royal robes.” So the king of Israel disguised himself and went into battle.
31 Now the king of Aram had ordered his thirty-two chariot commanders, “Do not fight with anyone, small or great, except the king of Israel.” 32 When the chariot commanders saw Jehoshaphat, they thought, “Surely this is the king of Israel.” So they turned to attack him, but when Jehoshaphat cried out, 33 the chariot commanders saw that he was not the king of Israel and stopped pursuing him.
34 But someone drew his bow at random and hit the king of Israel between the sections of his armor. The king told his chariot driver, “Wheel around and get me out of the fighting. I’ve been wounded.” 35 All day long the battle raged, and the king was propped up in his chariot facing the Arameans. The blood from his wound ran onto the floor of the chariot, and that evening he died. 36 As the sun was setting, a cry spread through the army: “Every man to his town. Every man to his land!”
37 So the king died and was brought to Samaria, and they buried him there. 38 They washed the chariot at a pool in Samaria (where the prostitutes bathed), and the dogs licked up his blood, as the word of the Lord had declared.
39 As for the other events of Ahab’s reign, including all he did, the palace he built and adorned with ivory, and the cities he fortified, are they not written in the book of the annals of the kings of Israel? 40 Ahab rested with his ancestors. And Ahaziah his son succeeded him as king.

Here's the link for the commentary I read.

I will disguise myself and go into battle; but you put on your robes: Going into the battle, Ahab did not want to be identified as a king and therefore be a special target. He thought this would help protect him against Micaiah’s prophecy of doom. It is more difficult to explain why Jehoshaphat agreed to go into the battle as the only clearly identified king. Perhaps he was either not very smart or he had very great faith.
Jehoshaphat cried out: Finding himself as the only identifiable king in the battle, Jehoshaphat found himself quickly in danger. He cried out unto the LORD and was rescued when they turned back from pursuing him.
The king was propped up in his chariot, facing the Syrians, and died at evening: Ahab faced the end of his life bravely, dying propped up in his chariot to inspire his troops. When his death became known, the battle was over.
The dogs licked up his blood while the harlots bathed: This was an almost fulfillment of God’s word through Elijah in 1 Kings 21:19, where Elijah prophesied that dogs would lick the blood of Ahab. This proved true, but not in the place Elijah said it would happen. God relented from His original judgment against Ahab announced in 1 Kings 21, but because of Ahab’s false repentance and continued sin, a very similar judgment came upon him.

When I heard about the latest school shooting, in Wisconsin, I cried. Now every time I hear of it, tears come to my eyes.

Why would we insist women have babies and then insist women send those babies to school [so they can work outside the home] and then let those babies get shot up?????

Is that the way it was while Ahab and Jezebel were in charge? Was life so hateful?

Ahab and Jezebel were all about the ivory palaces and appearances.

Ahab had beautiful temples built for the minions where he installed Baal to be worshipped.

Ahab discouraged the Israelites from going back to the Temple in Jerusalem during the Jewish holiday. He couldn't have the labor force on the roads for that long, it would cost him a pretty penny. Production would slow, slowing the economy. So he built a bunch of "fake temples" so the people could "worship" and stay close to town.

Jezebel had God's prophets killed. Jezebel shut down any talk about the God of Abraham. She would have the people working and worshipping in her "fake temples" or not at all. If someone talked against her "fake priests, preachers, and teachers" she had them executed.

Ahab was warned, dogs would lick his blood. Jezebel was warned, her blood would splatter the wall.

These verses describe how dogs licked Ahab's blood as predicted.

1 Kings 21:19 Say to him, ‘This is what the Lord says: Have you not murdered a man and seized his property?’ Then say to him, ‘This is what the Lord says: In the place where dogs licked up Naboth’s blood, dogs will lick up your blood—yes, yours!’”
I bet a lot of people think that verse is just "poetic". I bet a lot of people say "dogs won't really lick his blood... see that's why I hate reading the Bible... all those versions and no one can understand it.... 'dogs will lick your blood', indeed!"

But see.... dogs licked up the blood of Ahab from his very fancy chariot.

I wonder, look at verse 38. The chariot was washed in Samaria where the prostitutes bathed. Was that a warning to Jezebel to start counting the days before her blood would splatter on the wall?

Yep, it's just as the Bible says. Instead of Ahab sitting down to a nice veggie salad in his ivory palace, Ahab was dead and ....

Dogs licked his blood!
