Dogs that have issues!

Anybody have a dog that will not stay in a room by his/herself? This dog follows me around the house constantly. I don't have a problem with it, but he goes crazy when I leave the house. Is there a way to train him so that he won't have a heart attack when I step out for a moment?

Yes, three large ones. But they are fine when I leave the house.

Sounds like he has separation anxiety. There are many different things you can do/try. Do a google search and look up "dog separation anxiety." You can probably find something that can help you and your dog.

You will have to go slow. Put him in his crate or a room. Leave for 5 minutes..come back..give him a cookie, praise him. Keep repeating and extending the time you are gone.

All of the above are correct.

What kind of dog are we talking about?

My dog had Separation Anxiety as well. Talk to your vet about it. There are meds avail, yes. But there's also thing you can do to help minimize the anxiety that they feel.

You need to think about what is going on in the house when you are there, such as TV's, Stereos. If they are usually on when you are there, leave them on when you leave.

Don't make a big deal about it when you leave OR come home. Your dog will be excited to see you when you get home. Practice ignoring it for the first few minutes and don't act overly excited to see him. Keep a level range of emotion, coming and going.

Good luck with it.
