Jamaica, VA – The countdown to ‘Thursday Thunder’ continues as the Advance Auto Parts Super DIRTcar Series race chasers make their maiden voyage to the Old Dominion State this Thursday. The Advance Auto Parts SDS makes its first-ever appearance at Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway on May 3rd for the 60-lap Paul Sawyer Memorial presented by Thurston Spring Service, Inc.

The stop at Virginia Motor Speedway will be the first-ever series event staged at the popular Jamaica, VA oval since the tour originated in 1980. The inaugural Advance Auto Parts Series stop stands as part of a big ‘Thursday Thunder’ doubleheader featuring both the Big-Block and Super Late Model events.

Several NASCAR stars are expected to be in attendance on Thursday May 3rd as Kenny Schrader, Kenny Wallace, J.J. Yeley and David Reutimann visit VMS to test their skills on the dirt. Schrader and Wallace are expected to compete in the $5000 to win, Paul Sawyer Memorial 40 lap Super Late Model event with Yeley and Reutimann wheeling a big block modified in the $6000 to win Paul Sawyer Memorial 60.

In addition, former Busch Series Champion Randy LaJoie will be on hand to sign autographs prior to the event. Lajoie will also be bringing his “Safer Racer Tour” to VMS and will be available to answer any questions about race seat and cockpit safety for VMS, Super Dirtcar Series and Super Late Model drivers.

Competitor gates for Thursday, May 3rd will open at 4pm with spectator gates opening at 5pm. On track activities will begin at 6:45pm with hot laps. Divisions scheduled to race on Thursday May 3rd: Advance Auto Parts Super Dirtcar Series (60 Laps) and Super Late Models (40 Laps). Advance Auto Parts Super Dirtcar Series will run a complete SDS format. Super Late Models will run Hot Lap Time Trials (Top 10 set for ‘A’ Main), Heats, B Main and Feature.

Adult tickets are just $20, Senior and Military $18, Students 13 –17 yrs old $10, Children 7 – 12 yrs old $5 and Children 6 and under free.

Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway, a ½ mile dirt oval track is located on U.S. Route 17, eight miles north of Saluda, VA and 25 miles south of Tappahannock, VA in Jamaica, VA. The speedway is just a short drive from Richmond, Fredericksburg, Southern Maryland and the Hampton Roads area.
