Domestic Travel

I was expecting a friend this weekend, from the west coast. He told me he couldn't make it because of medical screenings out there, due to the reactor mishap in Japan; and fears of radiation in the western U.S. He said that he had to pay something like $300 to get this done. He lives in CA and has not recently been anywhere, much less, outside the country.

I don't know if he's yankin' me or not.

Mandatory medical screening for domestic travellers? Having to pay for it?Thoughts?

I do believe somebody may be yanking your chain. If they aren't screening international travelers, I seriously doubt they are screening domestic ones. There woulds be a huge media uproar about it....even if it was to just be OMG OMG :jameo: hype.

Closest news article I could find:

‘Minuscule’ Amounts of Radiation From Japan Detected by California Station - Bloomberg

Excerpt
Screening for radiation of international passengers from Japan isn’t considered necessary at this time, the organization said in an e-mailed statement yesterday.

“The radiation is actually at a rather low altitude, less than a kilometer, rather than up high,” the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission said yesterday in an e-mail. “It is bleeding out, carried on plumes of heat, and radiation levels drop off rapidly higher above the plant.”

California Governor Jerry Brown said the Japan crisis poses “no threat” to the state’s residents, and officials are monitoring air quality and consulting with federal agencies.
