Donate furniture?

We have a lot of things to donate - 2 dressers, a bunk bed w/futon, bookshelf, end tables. All wood, bunk bed has some cat damage. Tried the Habitat Restore but haven't heard back from them. Want it all gone ASAP. Any suggestions?

I think if you TAKE it to Restore, they will take it. They're kind of weird about donations if they have to pick it up.

Ugg - I have 2 huge desks I am trying to offload in Charles County. Thankfully, everything else I was getting rid of had a taker.

I used free cycle years ago to get rid of several things perhaps I will see if that is still an option.

Let me know what you come up with because I'll be in the same situation this summer.

With everyone being closed in, house cleaning and getting rid of stuff has increased. Places like ReStore are overloaded and are being very selective about what they now take. I had a bunch of stuff to donate and after 20 questions on the phone with them, they didn't want most of what they would have taken in the past. And drop off was by appointment. I finally wound up just trashing everything.

I have a bunch of furniture to get rid of, some very collectible things, but no one seems to want it locally. I'm working with my brother in NC who says the local consignment shops are a great way to go. I may just haul it down there next trip. Consignment shops are big down there, people always looking for odd stuff.

Try FB Marketplace, the freebie pages. There's several.

How big are the desks? And do you know if they are solid wood or particle board? I’m a notorious pack rat, and love refinishing old quality pieces...

Same as above, my pack rat ears just perked up... If you could PM me a list of things and wanted price, I would be happy to try to relieve you of some.
Ask SailorGirl — I’m not an axe murderer.
my LW will probably beat me for this as I already have a bunch of projects waiting to be redone, but I can’t stop myself...

If you're serious, that might be a good option. Some of these pieces are the kind that if you refinish them, it kills their value and antiquity. But the ex, in her infinite wisdom, used them for her plants and didn't use anything to protect from water.

There's a bedroom set (no bed) of burled walnut, and another full set with a mirrored makeup desk and chairs, the ex's grandmother's, it may have come over from Germany. The makeup desk is tiny, probably made for a very small room.

And how do you know I'M not the axe murderer? An old forumite actually refused to come over to watch a movie (theater was in the basement at the time) because she was convinced it was a murder chamber and she wouldn't come out alive.

Yes, very serious — if the pieces are useful and we agree on a price, I will happily come with a van and get it. If you need help trashing something else, I’ll haul it to the dump for you. I just need to see the pieces and run them past my LW for approval.

Eh, if you are an axe murderer - I have lived and lived well. For my family I’m probably worth more dead than alive, so they are good also.

One is a metal desk - old style - solid and the other desk is a large wall unit type that I thought he purchased from the Oak Post when they were in business. I can send ya pictures maybe next week if you want to send me an email address.

Just wanted to tell something nice and warm-fuzzy-feeling in this time of division and fear.

I met up with @Sneakers to conduct above-described transaction, and had a very nice time.

He is a very nice gentleman, and it was an absolute pleasure to talk to him.
I probably overwhelmed him by constantly chattering like a magpie, but that’s COVID isolation for ya — we all have this pent-up need for normal human contact.

Again, thank you @Sneakers !
Please keep me in mind if I can ever be of assistance.
