Donations for animals

Hi everyone!! My mom passed away in February and her sister is handling the estate. There was a life insurance policy and mom didn't specify what to do with it. We are trying to decide on animal rescues that need donations. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Mom was very involved with the Southern Maryland Kennel Club and they are going to honor her with a trophy at the Richmond Show in June. This is one of the places we are making a donation to.

If your Mother liked specific breeds of dogs, maybe donate to a rescue group that handles them. I'm sorry about your Mother Dachsom, it's never easy.

Thanks. I guess I should have mentioned that there has been a donation to a Scottish Terrier Rescue. I think what we are looking at are the smaller rescues in the area that may need help. I just don't want to give a lot of money to groups that are not quite on the up and up.

dachsom, that is a very nice gesture. Your mom, and your family sound like great people to want to help animal rescues. Sorry about the loss of your mom, T's and P's to you and your family.

dachsom, I know the loss of a parent. I am sorry. ArkRescue runs a rescue. She would, also, be a good source of info. But, you probably already know that.

Thanks for the words of kindness. I really miss her especially over the next few days. Every year, she would take me out for my birthday. She never missed a year no matter how sick she was and she would never take no for an answer. She was an awesome friend to the animals.

Pets with disabilities(PWD is out of Calvert) seems like a great organization. I had donated to them at the end of the year and rec'd a very nice hand written thank you note. They do so much for the disabled dogs and their medical bills are very high. They are always actively fund raising and updating their web page on progress. Even if you don't donate to them check out their page, it's amazing.

Other groups (in St. Marys)after receiving my donation either sent a recpt or another kind of letter looking for more donations or I didn't hear from them at all. Although I didn't expect to hear from them, PWD sure sticks in my mind because they did.
Golden Retriver rescue is very active even going down to the Carolinas to save dogs also.
Charles County Humane Society is often running specials, last month cats were free. This month small animals =$5, cats =13 and dogs $17. They really want to place their animals.
There are a lot of good rescues around and do not mean to smit them. I would definately make sure they are registered 503c though if you want to be able to deduct your contribution.

I am sorry about your Mom :huggy:

I think this is wonderful what you are doing and I just so happened to see this video just before clicking your thread. Now granted, we may not have this organization locally and it would be best to help locally but just look at the dedication of this man as he tries to not only help this stray dog but to find her puppies. That is what makes these sorts of rescue groups so wonderful.

Touching rescue of a frightened stray dog ends with an amazing surprise. [VIDEO]
