GLEN BURNIE, Md. (WUSA) -- The smiling boy on a collection can is a symbol of grief and hardship. The Titchenells cannot afford to bury the son they lost three weeks ago.

I never thought to have life insurance on my kids," says Jennifer Titchenell.

A tree limb fell in her family's Severn, Md. yard three weeks ago. It killed her son, 7-year-old Steven Richards.

"You're going through so much tragedy. Three months before, we lost my nephew. It seems that more and more is just building up," says the boy's mother.

The burden of a $6,100 funeral forced Steven's parents to ask for help. They set up 10 collection cans in the Glen Burnie community.

this family is just plain cursed. the nephew she refers to was trying to follow his grandad across a road and got hit. the son was apparently playing in the yard when the tree limb fell. he managed to push his brother out of the way but didn't make it himself.
