Don't throw away your 2004 calendars and holiday cards!

Didn't know where else to put this so I thought I'd put it in the "children" forum.

Here's an idea for those 2004 calendars and holiday cards.
Don't throw them away! My sister is an elementary teacher and suggested that old calendars and cards not be thrown away, but instead donated to your favorite teacher friend. (not the swimsuit or playboy-type ones, mind you :nono: Don't get any ideas Pete... MM... ST...)

Teachers can use the artwork and photos on these items for class projects, etc.

My GF is also doing something that I hadn't thought of with her Christmas cards. She is using the artwork from some of them for scrapbooking her 2004 Christmas.

Would you be willing to collect them for her?
This wasn't really a request for donations... just an idea for those of you who know teachers.

But I've already started collecting from my coworkers. If you have some that you want to donate and you're down here near the base, I'd be happy to meet you somewhere to collect them.

I have a couple and I would like to see them get some use instead of throwing them out. I do work near the base and even sometimes on base. I will PM you.

Another use for your Christmas cards is sending them to St. Jude's Ranch for Children. People from all over the world send their cards to St. Jude's where the children cut out the front covers and create new cards to resell as a fundraiser for the ranch. It seems that no part of the card goes to waste. Even the leftover cuttings are recycled and sold to a chipboard company. The address is St. Jude's Ranch for Children, 100 Saint Jude's Street, Boulder City, NV 89006.

Where to send used cards

There are several charities that take used cards and recycle them and sell them. One of them is the St Judes Childrens ranch.

To earn money, the children cut, trim and paste used card fronts to preprinted card backs. Then the cards are sold in packages of 10 for $8. In addition to Christmas cards, St. Jude's accepts all types of greeting cards for recycling.

Where to send the cards

My company has an annual drive to gather cards from employees and send them to St. Jude's. That's where all mine are going later this week. :yay:

I'll have to ask my sister if she could use them. She teaches 3rd grade. That is a great idea.
