...when your sleeping like a rock and an arm comes out of nowhere and bops you up side the head?

My wake up call was a phone ringing in the berthing. What kind of retard calls a place where everyone is supposed to be sleeping at 3 am? It isn't like it can be a drunk or something. The night before, it was the shipwide intercom announcing "propulsion plant casualty" which can never be good. Just one night, that's all I'm asking, to sleep through the entire night.

Even wide awake, I don't know wtf that means. :shocking:

I'm on a nuclear powered air craft carrier. The propulsion plant is powered via nuclear power.....when there's a propulsion plant casuality, means something wonky going on with the reactors or it's accessories. :wideawake:

Those were the days! Glad it's over, and I'm NOT looking back with ANY fondness at all. Sorry about your sleep. I didn't get a full night's sleep once in the Navy, except when on leave or when living ashore while in port - and even then I didn't sleep well.

I didn't go to sea on a carrier, but spent a lot of time repairing nuclear subs before going to a destroyer (gas turbine power). I can say that the Navy's nuclear power program is exceptionally well planned to maximize personnel safety, but you still feel a bit uncomfortable around nuke stuff - a smart frame of mind to have.

I have the good fortune to be on the 03 level, but far enough away from the catapults and wires to have it sound like an anvil being dropped in the next room, and the wooshing is strangely comforting somehow.
