Door to Door salesmen... annoying

What is the deal with all the frozen meat salespeople around here? We seem to get at least one each week around here. It's gotten worse over the past few months. I have no problem with people trying to make a living, but if I want to buy frozen meat, I will order it or go out to the store and buy it myself.

They keep coming to my house when my babies are sleeping or at dinnertime etc... There are signs at the entrance of my neighborhood prohibiting solicitors, but I guess these guys are ignoring the signs or can't read.

I don't get the frozen meat guys either...

I finally asked the Schwan's guy about them, and he said that they buy really nasty meat and mark it way up. They buy a container of the stuff and at their prices, three customers buying their "value pack" pay for the container, and the rest is all profit.

I'm not that desperate for a steak that I'd buy it off the back of a truck from some guy who looks like it just got out of prison! I don't buy it from Schwan's either (better quality, but not cheap).

Nick's in Prince Frederick has really good steak if you're looking for a treat!

Nick's meat counter is great for anything! Even their chicken is much more juicy and tender than any I've purchased at the regular grocery stores. I usually check out their sale flyer and plan meals for the week based on that. Their sale prices are usually better than Giant or Safeway anyway. Here's how you get to the sale flyer: http://www.nicksofcalvert.com/images/specials_ad.gif

Anyone (salesman, religious people, etc) that shows up at my door "unannounced", is met by me opening the door with a 9mm in my hand. With crime the way it is in Southern Maryland, I don't trust anyone.

Not hardly. Why open the door to someone showing up that you're not expecting only to have it be the criminal element with the wrong intent?

Does the term "home invasion" ring a bell? Happens all the time.

Put a sign on your door saying No soliciting! If they still knock, get their tag number and call the Police. It worked for me.

My brother was a State Trooper, and I know a few current cops. They have better things to do.

BTW, that sign may take care of solicitors, but it won't deter the criminal element.

They might have better things to do but I know too many people in the Sheriff's dept that wouldn't allow them to ignore the laws. Besides, I don't call the State boys for anything. These solicitors cannot sell without a license and, if the cops won't at least check for that, I call higher ups in the department.
And, DUH, I never said it would deter criminals. How the heck did you come up with that silly statement?

The issue of them ignoring the law was not brought up, and calling the police because someone is solicting is like calling them when you see someone not come to a complete stop at a stop sign. On occasion, the Sheriff's Departments of all 3 counties don't always have a full complement of officers on duty during certain shifts, so they need to concentrate on a priority basis and soliciting is not a priority.

With regards to the sign, you have people that don't look, people that don't read, those that read but don't comprehend, and those that could care less.

I guess even paranoid folks have enemies.

Not paranoid here. It's just a simple case of understanding what can and might happen when you take things for granted. I don't take anything for granted.

Since your comment suggests that I'm paraniod, do you have a degree in a psychology to back that up? Somehow I doubt that you'd post such a comment if you did. Then again, I've seen a few scholars make irrational comments because they lack common sense.

:yeahthat: Definitely Nick's. Great Delmonicos. Chicken and their sausage and hot dogs are the best. :yay: I know I sound like a commercial, but they are good.

You stated that you answer the door with a gun in your hand, but I'm irrational?

There's a phrase that goes "expect the unexpected". If my taking such a precaution when somebody comes to my house unannounced is considered irrational in your mind or that of any other, then so be it.

Too many people out there have no feelings about perpetrating a crime upon law abidding citizens, and that is proven day after day. I'm just one of those law abidding citizens that's not going to be the guy that says... I never thought it could happen to me after it's too late.

If I am home alone, and somebody comes to the door unannounced, I will not answer the door.

If somebody tries to break in they might find a nice big gun in their face.

Door to door salesmen (including school kids) and Jehova's are not welcome on my doorstep. Period.
