Dower House Road Shut Down

For all of you traveling in P.G. County today Dower House Road is shut down Both ways. There was a car full of explosives found that was trying to make it's way to Andrews. I work on Dower House Road and I'm trying to make my way out. So they got it shut down, so the Bomb Squad can do it's work.

Thats all i got right now. The helicopters are flying around, and I believe News 4 is there reporting. The car is a Nissan Maxima. It's right near where the trailer park is.

Just got off the phone with our fire marshal who lives in the trailer park, he stated that there are about 4 stolen cars near the dumpster place near the trailer park and one of them has a bomb inside it. They have shut down Dowerhouse at Woodyard and also near the new entrance to Andrews of Dowerhouse. PG Police and PG Fire's Bomb Squad are on the scene at this time.

It was closed this morning when I tried to go through at about 7:45am, didn't seem like anything major - just a few casual cops with their cars turning people around. I'm glad they caught these people.

I don't think they could have mangaged to get on base, but where the car is, is in very close proximity to Andrews. But hey, anything could have happened.

It was fine this morning when I went through and that was during rush hour if that helps any :shrug:

UPPER MARLBORO, Md. -- A bomb squad is investigating after police found explosives in a stolen car on Dower House Road in Upper Marlboro.

The road was closed for several hours Wednesday morning while law enforcement officials investigated.

A black Nissan was reported stolen months ago and ended up at a salvage yard on the road, News4's Megan McGrath reported.

Someone from the salvage yard was cleaning Wednesday morning when she found two fist-size packages in the vehicle labeled "explosives," McGrath said.

Authorities said the packages contained raw explosive materials. They had not been assembled into a device and there was no detonator, authorities said.

Sources said at least some of the materials belong to the military. The Department of Defense was called to take possession of those materials.

Residents who live on Dower House Road returned home to find the barricade, and some were stuck for quite some time, McGrath said.

The explosive materials and car have been removed from the scene and the road has reopened.
