In my opinion he is one of the best surgeons out there. Very good bedside manner. You will be in very good hands.

Why don't you ask the Doc if he will give you pain meds? If he says no, and you want the pain meds....move on to another Doc.

Are you going to be laid up for awhile after the surgery?

It can't come soon enough.

Dr. Roache performed surgery on me twice--- both times with cancer--- in different locations. He is wonderful! I would very highly recommend him. I do think he is never likely to prescribed a strong pain medication. He knows I am a recovering alcoholic and perhaps that is the reason he did not give me anything very strong. I called him asking for a stronger prescription once, and he complied and issued a new prescription, so communication is (always) the key. I tell anyone interested he is an excellent surgeon but goes easy on the pain drugs. Since this is an area of concern for you, communicate early and (if necessary) often with him. Good luck with surgery. You will be in good hands, I feel confident. I always had great service at St. Mary's Hospital.

He does not like to prescribe a strong pain medicine due to the chance of you becoming dependent on it, he will however prescribe something for you if nescessary.
