Dragonflies

herds of them in my front yard, much more than I've seen any other year. Any ideas on what's causing this? I understand they've even been spotted on radar in Pennsylvania.

Came home yesterday (in Great Mills area) to a swarm of hundreds of large blue dragonflies circling in my neighbor's front yard. No apparent reason why they were only in that yard and not other yards just dozens of feet away. Some were visible much higher up (50-80 feet overhead) but most were in that tight swarm in the yard. Fascinating.

Nothing to see here
We have not seen any in MontCo. I guess they don’t like sanctuary counties. Smart bugs. Or, as my grandtots say...boogs.
I have not seen any around my neighbor hood either. Seen two box turtles on my walk yesterday and I made sure they crossed the road safely.

We've had hoards of them most of the summer. I think I started a thread in the Garden section a few months back. I've never seen so many as I have this summer, but, no mosquitoes either!!

Hmmm... send some of those dragonflies to the island. None here on the island and the mosquitoes have recently come out with a vengeance.

This year there has been a load of dragon flies where i live in mechanicsville. Md dnr also posted about this and i asked early in the summer. Why so many dragon flies this year. They asked there specialists and there was no solid reason why. Possibly due to last years heavy rainfall they said. The dragon flies you see this year are growth from last years eggs. I also read that this time of the year there is a dragon fly migration happening and that is why you may be seeing heavy concentrations of them.
