Quarterback Brett Favre has informed Minnesota Vikings officials that he will remain retired, according to The Star Tribune.

Coach Brad Childress confirmed the news to the Star Tribune, leaving the Vikings in an unexpected and awkward spot with training camp set to open Wednesday. The Vikings are now left to choose between Tarvaris Jackson and Sage Rosenfels as their 2009 starter.

He sure milked his non-unretirement for all it was worth.

Question is: Is this the final episode in the retired/I'm not sure saga of Brett Favre? :diva:

Or, if another NFL team shows any interest in him, will he consider playing again for them?

The only way he comes back is if he's wussing out on training camp, and tells the Vikings he wants to play 2 weeks before the start of the regular season. Ever since Green Bay wouldn't take him back, he's only wanted to play for the Vikes.

He's tarnished his reputation much worse than others, at this point. If he comes back again, he'll be viewed as a pathetic media attention whore. As if he's not already.

Everyone's sick of him.

I prefer good football players.

Favre WAS a good football player. Now he's an attention whore.
He was last year in the first 10 games. He fell off after injury.

P. Manning wasn't so hot with his bursa sac in the first half of the season. Is he a bad QB too?

BLASHPHEMER!!!

Of 32 starters how many would be better off with The Brett at the helm rather than the ham sammitch they are planning on going with, huh?

Whose driving for Denver? KC? The Jags? Are the Jets going to be better this year with Sanchez? Detroit? 49'ers? The Bucs? The Packers fell off last year without him. And, obviously, the Vikes thought he was better than what they have. Texans?

That's 10 teams that, clearly, would be better with The He under center. :tap:

The day will come, and it may be within the next 10 years or so, Brett will be gone for good and you WILL be sorry you don't have Brett to kick around any more!

As of right now...

Denver - Kyle Orton is much better
KC - Matt Cassel is much better
Jacksonsville - David Garrard is much better
New York - Mark Sanchez has more potential
Detroit - Matt Stafford has more potential
San Fran - Shaun Hill is better
Tampa - Josh Freeman has more potential
Green Bay - The Packers fell off last year because their defense was horrendous, Aaron Rodgers put up great numbers.
Houston - Matt Schaub is much better

Brett Favre is his prime was obviously better than all of those guys, but right now at his age (he turns 40 Oct. 10th) he simply cannot get it done on a week to week basis. After week 12, Favre put up 5 straight weeks of QB ratings 61.4 or lower and the Jets went 1-4 as a result. He wasn't sure that he could make it an entire season, and he was right, he couldn't, and thats why he was smart to stay retired.

Not really.

Denver - Kyle Orton is much better - much better? Ha hahaha. One good season and a lot of mediocre injury plagued ones.
KC - Matt Cassel is much better. Are you here all week? I should try the veil perhaps. One good season with one of the best O-lines in the league. Not to mention the best WR core in the league. Expect a major drop-off.
Jacksonsville - David Garrard is much better. One good season.
New York - Mark Sanchez has more potential. Hasn't proven anything.
Detroit - Matt Stafford has more potential. Likewise.
San Fran - Shaun Hill is better. Laughable. 1/4 of a decent season.
Tampa - Josh Freeman has more potential. Hasn't taken a snap.
Green Bay - The Packers fell off last year because their defense was horrendous, Aaron Rodgers put up great numbers. Not great numbers, average.
Houston - Matt Schaub is much better. That's why he was on the bench.

Nice try.

Ok, lets compare last season for all of those QBs...
Comp Att Comp% Att/G Yds Yds/Att Yds/Gm TD INT Rat
Orton - 272 465 58.5 31.0 2,972 6.4 198.1 18 12 79.6
Cassell - 327 516 63.4 32.2 3,693 7.2 230.8 21 11 89.4
Garrard - 335 535 62.6 33.4 3,620 6.8 226.2 15 13 81.7
Hill - 181 288 62.8 32.0 2,046 7.1 227.3 13 8 87.5
Rodgers - 341 536 63.6 33.5 4,038 7.5 252.4 28 13 93.8
Schaub - 251 380 66.1 34.5 3,043 8.0 276.6 15 10 92.7
Favre - 343 522 65.7 32.6 3,472 6.7 217.0 22 22 81.0

Hmm...Favre had the second lowest Quarterback Rating, Yards/Game and Yards/Attempt average out of that group, and most interceptions (real shocker there) while all of his other numbers were right on par with the rest of that group. But the key statistic with Brett Favre is HE'S GOING TO BE 40 YEARS OLD. Do you honestly think he would even put up numbers that good another year older when he was barely an average starting QB last season? Most of the guys listed above are over 10 years younger than Favre. Those guys have better years still ahead of them, whereas Favre's best days are far far behind him.

Orton may not be better than Favre, but he's a solid QB.
Cassel, we'll see how he does. Probably a drop-off this year
Garrard is OK I guess
Sanchez, Stafford, and Freeman...we'll see how they go. Not good to start a rookie their first season so both teams would be better with someone else as a starter.
Shaun Hill? Please!
Rodgers was a very solid QB.
Schaub...ehh he's ok.

Favre had a horrible finish to last season. He's not that great anymore. I think most teams would be better off without him. He's not worth the hassle. I think the Jets would have done better finishing the season off with Clemens. Favre started well though, probably better than Clemens would have done.

Favre would be best suited as a veteran backup QB at this point.....And we all know "The Drama Queen" won't settle for that!

Barely average doesn't suffice it. He was considered for MVP until his injury. Even after his injury his coach made him chuck it 25-30+ every game. Not good for any QB to be throwing it that much, especially with a great running game.

BTW, 6th in completions in front of Aaron Rodgers.

5th in percentage completed.

11th in yards.

9th in TD's.

That's better than half the league, at least. Better check your source.
