DSL & phone lines ...

Nanny Pam

When I got a phone call, I lost my DSL internet connection.
As soon as I got off the phone, I was back up & running.

What would cause that to happen?

Thanks in advance.

Riddle me this...if you have a Verizon VOIP phone, why would you be able to make calls but not receive calls?

Do you have your adapter jack plugged in? It should separate the phone and DSL lines.

You mean the filter? Thats just to keep the noise off the phone line (mine doesn't work very well). I'm thinking a problem with the phone lines. Either that or sunspots.

Do you get a loud noise over you phone when you check for the dial tone? We are trying to find out if it's a bad DSL filter or if there is something seriously wrong with the phone line somewhere. The phone company is coming out tomorrow.

It should have a spliiter and a filter. The splitter plugs right into the wall phone jack and to turn one line into two(one for the phone and one for the computer) The filter for the phone line. When I use verizon DSL, the package came with all that stuff.

I had a similar problem when one of my kids unplugged a phone downstairs and plugged in a fax machine with no filter.

Check and make sure all phone jacks that are in use, no matter what, have a filter on them, and of course, the one you use for DSL doesn't have one on it.

Are you on a wireless router and have a wireless phone?

You're thinking that if the wireless router and the wireless phone might be on the same gigahertz frequency, they could be interfering with each other?

Wireless routhers work at 5.8 gigahertz, I believe, so do some phones.....

Oh,
I really need help here. If I bought a regular phone, (not wireless) would that help?

If I use the wireless far away from the computer, will that help?

ding-ding-ding! Give the man a beer! That's exactly what I have. Now what do I do?
Access your wireless router and change the channel.. OR if your phone is capable, change the channel on it.. if you call the phone company they can give you a different color squelch that will have the same effect, but it's costly and time consuming.

My son has a phone line in his room with no phone on it right now. Should that have a filter even though there is nothing plugged in?

As long as there is nothing plugged into it you should be fine. Butin the future if he does get a phone you will need a filter.. Is it on the North Side or the South side of the house?
