Anyone have some weights hanging around they don't use? I've been creeping around on the classifieds looking, havent found anything yet. I want to start p90x with a friend aug first and I need a couple sets of weights..the ones i have are too light now  I figure so many people have this stuff sitting in their basement I could give them a good home :killingme and the bands just don't work, ive tried.

I'm looking for a set of 15's, 20's, and maybe a set of 30's.

I have a set of adjustables, but they are light..I can still use them for lower weight stuff, but really I am not a fan of the adjustables..no matter how tight you pin the weights, they shift ever so slightly and I can feel the muscles engage to make up for it, and it makes certain exercises uncomfortable. I love the weights at the gym..the no fuss solid hex weights..they tear up my hands (duh, LT,get gloves) but they are exactly what I am looking for, but they are kinda pricey for a poor chick.:killingme

Try using bands or hit the farmers market.

The bands are very effective when you're using a barbbell. Just attach a handle to each end and a bench press becomes more interesting. (Chest level 135lbs is 135lbs, with a band that offers 30lbs of resistance full extension is around 185lbs (even though you're still using 135lbs with the weights)....

I confused myself... :banghead:

I do P90X (doing X2 right now) and if you are willing to make the investment, the Bowflex SelectTech adjustable weights are GREAT! They go from 5 to 52.5 pounds, and the best part (in my opinion) is that you can go in 2.5 pound increments between 5 and 25 pounds. For a lot of the upper body exercises I got to 15 pounds and it was too easy, but 20 pounds was too hard. At 17.5 it was perfect. You can buy them at Dick's, but I think they are cheaper at amazon.com. They are still pricey, but worth it in my opinion.

I used the bands with p90x once I needed heavier weights than I had. They worked great.

I use bands too, but I have 8, 10, 15 and 25s. Sometimes I need a little more though. Those things aren't cheap and bands are a lot easier.

I never managed to make the bands work for me  they just don't feel like enough ..even with the highest resistance band maybe my technique is wrong or something..?

not impressed
took me a little bit to make them work but once I figured it out I liked it better than weights. easy to take on the road with me and you can adjust them by making them shorter.

thats part of my problem, if I am holding the handles, they are way too long for me..making it easier..but shortening them up by holding them further down the band makes it more awkward to do certain moves.
