I heard a commercial this morning about the Dunkirk Walmart Grand opening. It wasn't clear as to whether it was open or not. Is it open yet? Hey Geek. Can I use your employee discount when I purchase my lube and hot sauce? Oh, I also need one of those cool smiley faced night lights, too. I can't sleep at night without a lite or without you next to me.

Dunkirk Walmat opens this week on Wedesday.

It almost burned down before it even opens!!! They had a dumpster catch fire last night that was attached to the building and it filled the building up with alot of smoke. No major damage though.

Same old walmart. The county tried to keep them out entirely but walmart's pockets were deep enough to scare them off. They did get some kind of restriction on the size of the store so MAYBE it won't destroy the rest of the areas business.

The question is which business will go out of business first, not will any businesses be affected?

I don't think very many businesses will be affected..I used to live in Owings and if you think about it, I think it will bring more traffic into Dunkirk more than anything because, it will be the closest Wal-Mart for people in Upper Marlboro now. So instead of going to Bowie or Waldorf they will come to Dunkirk.

Gosh, I remember when we used to have to go to Superfresh or Giant in Upper Marlboro or Superfresh in Prince Frederick or Giant in Edgewater for that matter to shop and thats all we had lol..The only 7-11 was the one on 260 lol

Which businesses will it destroy? The only shopping now is Giant or Safeway and they charge a fortune for the things you can buy at Walmart, laundry, cleaning supplies, etc...

Walmart should be a good thing for the area. Safeway and Giant probably won't be selling as much toilet paper and laundry detergent but people do need to eat and can't live off of Walmart's cheap popcorn and beef jerkey. It will also give people a place to buy their underwear and an occasional shirt, as long as you don't mind the buttons coming off after the third wash. Oh, and they have one heck of a selection of car air fresheners too. Beat that 7-11! I just wish I could still buy pool chemicals in August and didn't have to look at Christmas trees in September.
