Who has one? What are the pros/cons about ownership of this toy?
I am looking into getting it myself. (Direct TV version)
You need 2 coax inputs and a phone line near by the TV.
The installers will drill holes wherever needed to do the installation.
Watch them, and make them do it the correct way.

The b/f is thinking about getting it. He had Directv and Tivo, but just switched to GMP cable. He's thinking about going with their DVR. Just wondering if it's worth it, or should he avoid it.

Can I just say that GMP installers SUCK! The b/f had to hook-up and install everything himself because the technician didn't have "time."

With GMP DVR can you record another channel while watching a different channel?

Are you getting GMP digital cable, or analog cable? How much do they want to charge for the DVR?

Not yet and I'm not sure why either.

But I like our DVR so far. It's nice to know that if I miss something on live TV I can just hit rewind:yay: Or I can record a show if we're to busy and watch it later.

GMP digital.

Is there a brand I can purchase, say at Best Buy or some other place that is compatible with GMP digital cable?

I'll have my DVR in a few hours and will report back with my findings. :yay:
I have the DTV version and love it. Gotta love being able to rewind and watch anything you want in slow mo - great for sports, and other things too :duh: and to record a show and watch another- awesome!!!

I'm probably not the best person to give advice on the subject since I don't have cable (I use DirecTV) and I don't have a DVR (yet). However, my guess is that GMP digital requires a receiver/channel switcher box that they provide (similar to my DirecTV receiver). You should be able to use any TiVO/DVR available and put it between the receiver and the TV. If you want to record one show while watching another, you would probably need a second receiver (which they'll charge extra for). Think of a DVR as a VHS, but using a hard drive instead of a tape.

if you will
I got a ReplayTV, and I love it.

Pros and Cons of what I have (not the DVR that may come with your cable or satellite system)

Pros:
1) You can catch everything you want to watch through a more automated programming system.
2) You can, while watching live tv, pause, rewind, and skip commercials.
3) You can hook it to a network instead of phone line for the software and schedule updates.
4) You can share TV shows through the internet if you are hooked to a network.
5) You can output to tape or DVD if you want to archive the show.

Cons:
1) One more thing to buy and worry about.
2) Subscription cost. Plus with ReplayTV, the subscription applies to the unit.
3) You become reliant on the device to record your shows. You may forget to program it, or a power outage might cuase you to miss your favorite show.
4) Unlike a VCR, you can't just eject a tape and put it in another VCR in another room.
4) If you aren't careful, you can fill up the unit and new recordings will replace old ones that you might not have wanted to erase.

I have DVR for comcast.

Pros -
You can watch one show (and record it while you are watching it) as well as recording another show.

You can record two shows and watch a third show on another TV elsewhere.

Since you are recording the 10 pm shows, you can fall asleep during them and still know the ending the next day

cons -
You end up watching way too much TV. you end up recording shows that you would have normally never watched and find yourself in front of the TV too much.

when your Tv breaks and you need to send it off to get it repaired, you become distressed b/c you can not use your DVR and will miss the pointless shows that you can not record. You have to switch back and forth between the season finally of the shows that you have become addicted to b/c of the DVR......
