Ear Mites

I'm hoping the forum member that seems to be a great POC for kittens and cats will see this post.
I've inherited a beautiful kitten, approximately 3 months old. She's been to the vet and is in perfect health with the exception of some ear mites.
The vet treated her ears, however, she is scatching at them and I'm wondering if there is a something I can use to swab her little ears out?, Anything I can use from home or a product from petsmart/petco? TIA

They sell drops at most pet stores that work pretty well.

You can use a little peroxide on a small piece of gauze or a makeup "pad" to clean out the gook. You can also use olive oil/veg oil (tiny amount) to loosen up the "dirt." But if she has ear mites, you will need some meds to get rid of them. Petco does have stuff for that. There are some homeopathic remedies as well but I haven't had to deal with kittens and ear mites in a long time and have never tried those remedies. If you check google, there's a bunch of remedies to try.

I've heard via pm from somebody else familiar with them and they're very young..eyes just beginning to open. There was a mom cat but people took it upon themselves to take the kittens and now don't really know what to do with them. :frown:

I haven't heard from TES who, by the way, is a rescue person but I think she mainly handles dogs.

This is only what I've been told over the phone as I wasn't able to see them for myself - A couple of people went to see the kittens, one being the lady who first saw them. She said they were walking but still at the wobbling stage. One was able to jump/climb over a low wall into some brush. They called a construction worker over who was able to pick him up and hand it to them. One lady has taken them to her home where she will bottle feed them and have them checked by a vet and contact some rescue groups that she is aware of. They did not see an adult cat anywhere around them for the time that they were there. I'm going to try to find out where they were and see if a cat comes around.

I'll send her an email and ask for updates on them.

There may be a couple sets of kittens around and in the garages as I've heard there have been several instances of seeing cats and they are trying to trap them. Looking out of my window we have seen several cats wandering near the woods by the Metro station.

I use a little mineral oil or veg oil with a cotton ball to clean inside my cat's ears. If the goop is way down in the ear, I use a q-tip with the veg or mineral oil, but you have to be very careful when using the q-tip.

I also use Revolution (which is basically a flea treatment) on whichever cat has ear mites, even on my indoor cats. After about a 3-month term of using Revolution the ear mites are gone, and it treats for certain kinds of worms.
