No doubt that boutique owner voted for the city government she has that has encouraged this sort of thing. So....good. It's nice to see people get what they want. :yay:

I doubt she cares.

Which is great because criminals get used to not getting pushback....so they'll be nice and comfortable if they ever try to come after someone like me.

Ok, say thats your store and you were on the floor and watched that happen.
How would you respond?

Here's the thing: criminals go where the pickins are easy. They don't want a fight either. Like this guy - he walked in, took what he wanted, and walked out without breaking a sweat. He had no fear that anyone in that store would give him a problem. It's unlikely he'd try that same move in, say, Cody WY or New Braunfels TX. Or even perhaps with a different store owner - it's likely he was familiar with this boutique and knew the chick there wouldn't give him a fight or pull out a gun and shoot his ass.

Think about the BLM thugs accosting brunchers in various liberal enclaves. Note that they don't go to, say, a biker bar with that.

He also certainly knew that even if he was detained and arrested....excuse me... :killingme ..... Anyway, he knew that even if he were arrested, he'd get processed and walk out with no charges in about an hour. Because that's the kind of city SF is. I don't live in cities like that, so criminals aren't so bold.

So #1, it's unlikely that man would have paid me a visit, because #2 it's unlikely he'd have walked out of there without a fight and on some primitive level he would know that, and #3 I don't live in a city that encourages criminality.

It's like me asking you how you'd respond if you woke up one morning to discover you'd turned into a wild boar. I have no answer for such an extreme and unlikely hypothetical.

I fully believe #3, but if you did live there and owned a store then you are wrong about #1/#2. Unless you are actually 6ft tall and 220lbs, in which case I pity Monello.

The fact is, if you physically attempted to restrain him the most likely outcomes would be #1 he knocked you on your ass or #2 you go to jail for unlawful restraint and assault, then this gentleman own's your business after suing you.

I had thought maybe a remote door lock, but what you said would probably apply. If you lock the door, the perp hasn't actually left the building, and hasn't actually stolen anything, so false imprisonment. Once 'caged', the following damage would far exceed the cost of the couple of items.

Sadly, I concur. Sorry, @vraiblonde , these are habitual thugs you would be facing. Very big on physical strength coupled with propensity for explosive violence without restraint.

You have strong personality, but you are definitely not familiar with the damage this type of people cause. Most likely nobody on this forum is.

And no conscience or remorse. You forgot those two important traits. Otherwise, spot on. :yay:

1 could always shoot the perp. Then before calling the authorities, destroy the tape. Tell the popo that it's just a visual deterrent that doesn't work. Say he got violent and a lethal dose of lead poisoning was the only option.

See, you all are presuming that this stuff goes on all over the whole country, and I can assure you it doesn't. It goes on where the local authorities allow it. Where laws are merely a suggestion and if you break the law you won't face any punishment. I don't live in places like that, and neither do most people. That's why the thugs leave us alone and go pick on places like SF where they can commit their crimes and nobody will bother them.

And that's fine with me. :sshrug:

I think I mentioned this on here somewhere but let me repeat here in case you missed it-

About 2-3 months ago, we had a MOC come into our store and attempt to steal a power tool. He was about 250 pounds. My female employee weighing in at about 150 lbs saw what this man was attempting and stopped him in his tracks! After confronting him about his actions, she retrieved the tool and he walked out of the store WITHOUT knocking her out or causing any further disturbance. So as @vraiblonde has indicated, these thugs can be stopped with no one getting hurt.

Was he ever caught?
