EBT System Down!

WalMart was stupid for allowing this, what did they expect? Look at all the wasted food because of this. There's no way in hell I would believe people needed to "stock up" like this. They had to have something at their house to eat for a flipping day til the system came back up.
True, but I think there was also rumors that it happened because of the shutdown

Still, I don't get it. (Personally speaking)

MANSFIELD, LA (KSLA) -
Shelves in Walmart stores in Springhill and Mansfield, LA were reportedly cleared Saturday night, when the stores allowed purchases on EBT cards even though they were not showing limits.

The chaos that followed ultimately required intervention from local police, and left behind numerous carts filled to overflowing, apparently abandoned when the glitch-spurred shopping frenzy ended.

Springhill Police Chief Will Lynd confirms they were called in to help the employees at Walmart because there were so many people clearing off the shelves. He says Walmart was so packed, "It was worse than any black Friday" that he's ever seen.

Lynd explained the cards weren't showing limits and they called corporate Walmart, whose spokesman said to let the people use the cards anyway. From 7 to 9 p.m., people were loading up their carts, but when the cards began showing limits again around 9, one woman was detained because she rang up a bill of $700.00 and only had .49 on her card. She was held by police until corporate Walmart said they wouldn't press charges if she left the food.

Lynd says at 9 p.m., when the cards came back online and it was announced over the loud speaker, people just left their carts full of food in the aisles and left.

"Just about everything is gone, I've never seen it in that condition," said Mansfield Walmart customer Anthony Fuller.

Walmart employees could still be seen putting food from the carts away as late as Sunday afternoon. "I was just thinking, I'm so glad my mom doesn't work here [Walmart] anymore, that's the only thing I could think about, those employees working, that would have to restock all that stuff," said O.J Evans who took cell phone video of the overflowing shopping carts at the Mansfield Walmart.

Evans believes it was natural human reaction that led people to fill up their carts during the glitch, but Walmart shoppers Stan and Judy Garcia feel very differently. "That's plain theft, that's stealing that's all I got to say about it," said Garcia.

Lynd says contrary to rumors, nobody was unruly or arrested and they were mainly there to help prevent shoplifting and theft.

A dispatcher for Mansfield police also confirms officers were called in for crowd control at the Mansfield Walmart. She said the shelves were cleared out, forcing Walmart to stop selling food at 9 p.m. There were no arrests.

There was, however, a huge mess left behind. Pictures and videos obtained by KSLA News 12 show aisles packed with shoppers emptying the shelves in Springhill. Another video shows what appear to be at least dozens of overflowing carts left abandoned in the aisles at the Mansfield store, against the backdrop of emptied shelves in the meat department.

It all happened at the end of a day in which the EBT system went down in several states, including Louisiana. Xerox, a vendor for the EBT system, experienced a power outage while conducting a routine backup test in one of the company's locations. While the system was back up Saturday night, it appears that it was not functioning entirely properly in some areas.

I just don't get it
That falls under the heading of "no good deed shall go unpunished." Walmart was accepting EBT cards even though the system was down, so instead of getting their basics and getting out, the mooches went crazy until the system came back up.

And the government will honor all the purchases regardless of how far over the limit they went.

Just goes to show you how many people will try to abuse the system. They are already getting use of money they have not earned. But, when Walmart was stupid enough to tell them there was no limit but we are honoring the cards then they got a case of the STOOPIDS and the dumbasses probably honestly thought it was a glitch and they thought they were going to take advantage of it.

LOL Just because a system is down, doesn't mean the balance is going to change for you when the system comes back up.

Not to mention, whatever the classy takers left in the aisles will be written off of Walmart's insurance as either damaged or stolen

Whatever loss the insurance company refuses to pick up, I'm sure the gov't will

And people wonder why a lot of people avoid shopping at Wal-Mart. The cost of the loss will be passed onto the consumer, hence higher prices on cheap crap.

One funny thing I saw on TV the other day was a food stamp advocate claiming that malnutrition was about to hit epidemic proportions but I also heard that obesity is also about to an epidemic. Which one is it, are the majority of Americans starving or stuffing their face, it can't be both.

Also, it has been proven that obesity is tied to food stamp use, guess the welfare whores can't get enough free food, that with the lack of exercise such as getting up and going to work, walking around an office, having to work hard, contributes to their weight gain.

Here's a novel idea, if you can't work, you can't eat. If you have to have food stamps, then volunteering for the local government should be required. Think about how lower our taxes will be when we don't have to pay for someone to cut the grass on the side of the roads, pick up trash, library's need to be staffed.

There's not such thing as a free lunch, if you want to eat, work for it, one way or another.

I'm tired of supporting lazy fat asses who think they are entitled to the earnings from my hard work.

actually being malnurished and a fat ass at the same time is a very likely situation.

and I agree, if you are able to do any task at all, you need to do it in order to earn your entitlements.

now, if for some reason you are stricken with health issues that seriously keep you from working, thats a different issue, and one I dont mind contributing too.

But if others with your same ailments are working to some capacity, I expect you to do the same.

that would be considered a JOB, then they would have to be paid benefits ...
and minimum wage .....
- Oh Wait Oba-MeCare makes Medical Free Now ...

hmm
$8.00 x 2080 hrs = $16,640 / 26 Weeks = $640 x 30% [averaging state and local taxes] = $192 - ($640) = $448 every 2 weeks

[now much is paid out in food stamps]

You would be amazed at the amounts you qualify for based on earned wages. This is in regards to food stamps, medical and daycare, energy assistance. Look it up yourself. Someone easily making $25 k a year with two kids would qualify for more than you think. The only perception that I would personally like to clear up is those on TCA are held to very strict guidelines, must provide proof of volunteering or work and turn it in every week. I cannot see how anyone benefits from it as all kids over 16 in the home are also required to work. For someone unemployed with two kids the maximum monthly benefit is $577.00 per month. Housing especially low cost ones are packed full and section 8 is a joke they have over a five year waiting list. Yes, there are those that somehow work the system to their advantage but they are not getting rich off it by any means. I could go on and on over the failures and mistakes of our human services systems. Just ask any one who works in the field they can tell you. The users and abusers stick out like a sore thumb.

I'm watching Fox and they are talking about this. They say people were buying things like flat screen TVs and other things you can't buy with these cards. Ridiculous. They are showing cell phone video, people walking around in the pajamas loading carts with everything, looks like looting to me.

I was at Maryland life a few weeks ago (I won 360.00) but, as I was standing in line to put my win ticket into the machine to get my hard earned cash, a woman of color just walked to the front of the line, cut in front and went to a machine.
naturally I was curious how much she won so I watched the screen
she was taking money out to gamble with.
the machine came up and asked if she was a recipient, so I figure she used an EBT card to pull the cash to gamble.
Should we as taxpayers be funding this? I was somewhat put off at it.

Oh, heck no. That's BS! I give you credit though, I would have probably said something. :killingme

If someone had been with me, I would have said somewhat loudly "it's nice to see our tax dollars bringing someone some frivolous entertainment. "

I started a thread about that loser, it's buried somewhere now. I just want to reach through the TV and strangle that guy. What a loser and he sees nothing wrong with it, in fact he things he's owed this. :tantrum:cussing::burning:
Just pathetic. I am not a sushi eater, and I can't remember the last time I had Lobster. Did have Crabs tonight but simply because I have my own pots out. But people like you and I pay for people like this to eat that good. Makes me wanna slap a politician.

This whole thing is just another example of you get what you vote for. I am not saying it is all Obama's fault. It is a progressive thing. But, the scary part is that we have truly found out that we are living amongst animals, and people that have no care about waste. It was like a two hour window to shop your heart out; like on a game show. This is why we have to continue to support our gun rights. If this can happen in Walmart, or any retailer, we are in trouble. I know,, it is not like we did not know this, already.
