EBT System Down!

Just pathetic. I am not a sushi eater, and I can't remember the last time I had Lobster. Did have Crabs tonight but simply because I have my own pots out. But people like you and I pay for people like this to eat that good. Makes me wanna slap a politician.
I think grocery stores should have a section for food that is going go to out of date soon and that should be the section the EBT people can shop in.

We shouldn't be paying for any of their stuff, period.

If they need food, the government should buy the cheapest stuff there is, all generic brands, and they can go pick up their "rations" monthly. If they run out of food before the month, tough chit, if you want more, get an eff'ing job and earn some money.

And if you do get a job, better get a good paying one because if you can work, you don't need tax payers buying your food.

I'm all for helping those who can't help themselves but I'm sick and tired of the government taking money out of my pocket and giving it to lazy ass worthless blood suckers who's only ambition in life is to take more of my money while trying to avoid working at all cost.

BTW, Wal-Mart will only pass the cost of all these onto those who shop there, they won't take a hit at all, those who shop there will.

Found this in the commentary on the link I posted below,

"Too bad Fox News didn't show you the background of this guy... he is living at home, with his grandparents, who live in the La Jolla Country Club in a houe worth $1.13 million dollars. The grandparents, Jimmie L and Carolyn Greenslate are real estate developers who own property all over Southern California.

His father, Randall Greenslate, owns FIRE PROTECTION PRODUCTS, INC.- a very successful, multi-million dollar business in Southern California.

This kid is not hurting for cash. I agree that he is gaming the system by not showing a verifiable income because his father and grandparents are footing the bill, and he should have his benefits revoked because he has LIED to the government about the source of his income. HE should be charged with FRAUD, arrested, and tried by jury for his crimes.

I am sure he is also getting paid for the gigs his band plays as well. And that contract he has signed with a record label? That alone should make him ineligible for SNAP benefits, as it is guaranteed future earnings (no music contract is ever written without up front cash, and the payment of future earnings laid out in full detail).

You can search all of this on Spokeo and Bizapedia... and the California Secretary of State website as well."

The Government used to do that didn't they?? Seem to recall Government Cheese being discussed a lot at one point. Didn't the Government have excess stuff they gave out from certain places? I remember hearing about it.

If you do that you'll stigmatize them. It's legal to taze people, but you aren't allowed to hurt their feelings.

That is what it has come to. It is just not the Walmart debacle. I do worry about a police state, but when I saw all the news about the veterans on the mall, my heart was lifted. I wish I could have been one of the people carrying barrycades and throwing them in front of the WH. My husband (former Marine) wanted to go, but we had previous family obligations. That is something I would have liked to be part of. There will be more next times; we can count on that.

I was behind a woman and her mother today in line at the grocery store and apparently her total was more than she had on her EBT card, for 10 minutes I had to wait for her to dig all over her purse to find enough cash to cover the balance. Glad the see the system is back up and working right. I will admit, what she was buying was healthy stuff. Good to see someone using it the right way.

It's just like anything else. Bad Apples and all. The problem is our government has gotten so large and complex that there is no way they can oversee such programs with any degree of certainty that the majority of recipients fall within the guidelines.

Giving them money does not cut it when working with so many abusing the system.

I volunteered with the Red Cross for quite a while years ago.

Went through the training to be qualified to go out to people's homes if they had suffered loss due to fire.

We had very strict guidelines to follow when making decisions on how to best use the Donated Dollar. We never gave out cash or checks or any kind of cards one could use. We gave out vouchers to specific stores based on the Family's needs. Whether it be prescriptions, clothing, food, infant items etc.

Now the Red Cross system was not perfect and I am sure periodically we had given a bit more or even less than the family was supposed to get simply because we were human and were trying to fit their particular situation into very rigid guidelines and things did not always jive.

But the point is "WE WENT TO THEM". We physically went with them to their burned out house, looked around ourselves to assess damage then would talk to them about their immediate needs. Then follow through accordingly.

The Welfare/foodstamp/unemployment system now has the folks applying for food stamps and such coming to government offices to do so. Sometimes even totally online. So at best all you have is a person and likely some papers to use to do your evaluation. You have no visible cues to alert the folks who authorize use of these programs that something might be fishy.

If Mr. Food Stamp Office worker drives up to someone's house and there is a brand New Shiny Escalade sitting there on 24" chrome rims and 2 babies with snot coming out of their nose, dirty, wearing diapers playing in the yard next to a trashpile. They don't need taxpayer money. They need counseling in setting priorities.

As for the Walmart thing, they just said on Fox that Walmart will have to eat the bill.
No offense to Walmart workers but they should be trained as to what is and what is not allowed to be purchased with food stamps via ebt. Now if they has cash on their card they would have to tell the register operator wouldn't they. But really Anyone with half a brain knows you cannot buy big screen TV's via a ebt card. That store is set to be getting a whole new set of employees.

When the OPM spigot is eventually turned off, it's gonna be funny for about an hour. Then it's going to get real serious. About that time I'm going to regret laughing at all the preppers.

Time to lock & load.

Funny, I was thinking whether this glitch was done on purpose to give us a little taste of how it would be if it was stopped altogether. That will never happen of course, but look what happened when it was only down for a few hours.

I was thinking about this the other day ..... Gov. Run commissaries for people on Welfare ... scan the bar code on the back of your state issued ID, you are allotted X Dollars in Food - BASIC Food ...

meat - cheap cuts
potatoes
Canned Veggies

bring back 'Generic' B&W Labels

but then I wondered how much this would cost
would some Congress Person start directing purchases to home districts

instead of paying Farmers NOT to Farm to prop up the market, the can be Contracted to Grow Food for Welfare Recipients

[maybe contract Wal-mart to run the stores]

it was a HUGE Deal in the 1980s The Dept of Ag, was buying up Cheese, Milk and Butter to prop up the market and paying vast amounts to store the food in warehouses - someone said hey we should give this stuff to welfare people

IIRC, like most Gov programs, it was a disaster
