Ecclesiastes 10 Dead flies & money

Ecclesiastes 10 As dead flies give perfume a bad smell,
so a little folly outweighs wisdom and honor.
2 The heart of the wise inclines to the right,
but the heart of the fool to the left.
3 Even as fools walk along the road,
they lack sense
and show everyone how stupid they are.
4 If a ruler’s anger rises against you,
do not leave your post;
calmness can lay great offenses to rest.
5 There is an evil I have seen under the sun,
the sort of error that arises from a ruler:
6 Fools are put in many high positions,
while the rich occupy the low ones.
7 I have seen slaves on horseback,
while princes go on foot like slaves.
8 Whoever digs a pit may fall into it;
whoever breaks through a wall may be bitten by a snake.
9 Whoever quarries stones may be injured by them;
whoever splits logs may be endangered by them.
10 If the ax is dull
and its edge unsharpened,
more strength is needed,
but skill will bring success.
11 If a snake bites before it is charmed,
the charmer receives no fee.
12 Words from the mouth of the wise are gracious,
but fools are consumed by their own lips.
13 At the beginning their words are folly;
at the end they are wicked madness—
14 and fools multiply words.
No one knows what is coming—
who can tell someone else what will happen after them?
15 The toil of fools wearies them;
they do not know the way to town.
16 Woe to the land whose king was a servant[a]
and whose princes feast in the morning.
17 Blessed is the land whose king is of noble birth
and whose princes eat at a proper time—
for strength and not for drunkenness.
18 Through laziness, the rafters sag;
because of idle hands, the house leaks.
19 A feast is made for laughter,
wine makes life merry,
and money is the answer for everything.
20 Do not revile the king even in your thoughts,
or curse the rich in your bedroom,
because a bird in the sky may carry your words,
and a bird on the wing may report what you say.

Dead flies putrefy the perfumer’s ointment: Solomon here followed a familiar form in stating proverbs. An obvious statement is made: that deadflies spoil a fine ointment and cause it to smell.
So does a little folly to one respected for wisdom and honor: Even as small dead flies – quite little in proportion to the whole – spoil a fine ointment, so just a little folly spoils the reputation of someone regarded as wise and honorable.
If the spirit of the ruler rises against you: The idea seems to be, “Even in a difficult situation, don’t leave your post. Be faithful to your position and you will find that conciliation pacifies great offenses.”
Folly is set in dignity … I have seen servants on horses: The Preacher wanted to remind us that not all is fair in this life. Foolish men are promoted or accepted to positions of great leadership. Some lowly men are unwisely exalted (servants on horses) while some noblemen are humbled (princes walk on the ground like servants).
A feast is made for laughter, and wine makes merry; but money answers everything: Solomon here spoke in the voice of a wicked, unwise king. Along this line, he counseled his readers to not curse the king lest they be found out.
What I see here is corruption. I hear that there are bug legs in chocolate. A few bug legs is no big deal.... but too many is bad. Having a fly in the house is annoying.... a fly in my soup.... is horrible. The soup would be corrupted.

When the boss is angry..... hang in there.... don't say anything to stir it up again or make things worse..... just do your job and keep your head down. I made a boss angry once. I don't remember what I did.... I only remember him pointing that aged finger at me and saying "I blame all this on YOU!" I could tell he wanted me to respond.... so I responded. "You are right. I'm so sorry." Well that threw him off.... I think he expected me to make excuses or argue with him....my dad was a Navy chief.... and according to Daddy.... there are no excuses.... just make it right. There was no way to make this right.... but my apology put his anger on hold. I got to keep that job.

Money answers everything.... well it is in the Bible. I think that must be sarcasm. Money makes the world go around.... when I was a kid I just assumed everyone had money. If you needed money you could just "go to the bank". I must have thought they grew it on trees..... We never lived in the lap of luxury when I was growing up..... we had small homes... big enough but smaller than the captains house. I thought we were middle income... and I was right. Now that I'm older.... I know I was really quite wealthy.... my parents stayed together to raise the kids. My dad worked two jobs.... Navy and Rena Ware pots and pans. Daddy was a door to door salesman.... and apparently he was pretty good at it. We ate well.... I remember complaining "steak again".... to which my dad responded..... "what a thing to complain about". My dad loved steak! My parents didn't drink or do drugs. They didn't fight in front of the kids. They had a switch bush in the yard that they used when we messed up.

Money makes the world go around.... the world go around... the world go around.... wait... money isn't centrifugal force?????
