27 “Look,” says the Teacher, “this is what I have discovered:

“Adding one thing to another to discover the scheme of things—
28 while I was still searching
but not finding—
I found one upright man among a thousand,
but not one upright woman among them all.

29 This only have I found:
God created mankind upright,
but they have gone in search of many schemes.”

Ecclesiastes 7:27 Or the leader of the assembly

OK.... now old Solomon has gone a little too far IMHO.

I get the part about only one man in a 1,000 is good. I mean after all.... As King, Solomon had to have heard countless schemes from a lot greedy, stupid, and devious men. That's enough to take away you faith in man in general..... So I get the part about only one man in 1000 is good.

What I have a problem with, as you might expect, is "not one upright woman among them all".

So Solomon is blaming the hundreds of concubines and wives for what happened?

Is he paying those women a compliment saying they were all too crafty, luring him in brain and body? Or was he saying that women are all bad?

There are a lot of commentaries on the subject. I've sprinkled a couple in this sentence. One commentary says he's talking about Eve. I guess they think he's saying Adam had a 1/1000 chance of not eating the apple?

Well with all those wives an concubines.... he would be the one to know.... huh?

Can I get a "Huh?" for Proverbs 20:6? Solomon asked the question in that verse, Proverbs 20:6, except the opposite: "Who can find a faithful man?" He was simply in our face exaggerating the truth that all persons are sinners. Faithful pretty much equals good.
