US economy contracted in first quarter
In an echo of 2014, the US economy contracted in the first three months of the year, according to a second official estimate released on Friday.
The economy shrank 0.7 per cent on an annualised basis in the first quarter, the Commerce Department said. That is much weaker than the 0.2 per cent growth the first estimate showed.
Economists had expected a downward revision, with the consensus forecasting a contraction of 0.9 per cent.
