Ehrlich has not made the transition from legislator to executive yet. My problems with the governor so far are that he has no clue about how to deal with the general assembly. I don't care what party one is, when the legislature is 2/3 opposition, you have to compromise to get things done. Instead he says "you have to pass my slots legistlation because well I won by three percentage points." And then he proceeds to not even articulate a plan until midway through the session. Then he introduces one, pulls it, and reintroduces a bill that makes the track owner cut more than education's cut. He is making far too many enemies and now that he has turned back on his campaign promise to not increase taxes, conservatives will be having serious troubles.
Yes, so far the governor has failed to exercise his potential for leadership. He is still in the mindset of a congressman that represents his home district. Now he is on a much broader stage and he needs to act like that.
