Elementary Schools

We are moving to the area in October and have two children who will be in elementary school. I have been able to find some information on the Internet, and have also talked to others who have been stationed there, but I would like some more information from people who actually live in the area. Depending on where we decide to live, it looks like our options will be Green Holly, Lexington Park, and Park Hall. I would really like some objective information. Thanks!

look at the MSA scores, higher scores usually mean better schools

I was very happy with Greenview Knolls Elementary but my child will be attending the new Charter school from now on.

Oh come on! MSA is a bunch of crap! The kids are coached for weeks leading up to the test specifically to raise the scores on the test so that the school and teachers can look good. My oldest thinks it's a joke. She says they may as well take the tests for them for all the coaching and preparing they give them beforehand.

I do not know about those schools specifically, my kids don't go to any of them. I do drive my Park Hall every day and it is in a nice enough area. I'm not sure where the other two are at. Hopefully parents with kids in those schools will see your post.

Greenview Knolls is a good bet. They also have a very good PTSA organization. This school makes it a policy that the students won't be tasked with having to sell stuff "door to door" for fundraisers. Here's a link where you can find the school boundries...

I've been very happy with Park Hall over the past 6 years, but this past year I've heard rumblings that the teachers are not happy with the administration. I know that 3 teachers quit and at least 2 more requested a transfer.

I'm a newcomer myself. My kids go to Hollywood. The teachers and Principles are great. The only bad thing about it is the office staff act like you are annoying them when you need need to pick your kid up early.

To be fair my two year old son kept calling the office the one time I brought him in to a parent conference so maybe they just hate me. It was a glowing button two feet from the floor. It just screamed "push me!" to a 2 year old.

Lexington Park's tests scores are not always the best, and I would try to avoid it if you can. We paid a lot more for a house to put the kids in a better elementary. : / I think it might have been cheaper in the long run just to send them to a charter or private school. Home prices here are falling though. I wouldn't buy right now down here.
