Emachines?

I am wanting to buy a new computer...but I'm on a strict budget. I saw an emachine at walmart, and was wondering if anyone has any info on them. I just want a basic computer for internet, email, word processing, and maybe some music downloads. I'll probably get Atlantic Broadband for an internet provider. The system I saw came with everything but the monitor...which is fine because I have a monitor to use. Here is the link.

Its not a bad computer, but Walmart isn't really the cheapest place to buy a computer believe it or not.

Best Buy/Circuit City usually have some $300 machines. You can also check out the $300 deals Dell has, they usually are the cheapest deal around.

I know nothing
They are good computers, but you are going to have to purchase full versions of some software

Most of the stuff is trial. So look to spend another couple 100 skins on MS office and a good virus protection program.

do not buy an Emachine!!

Ive seen too many people buy them and have them crash within a week of general use. everything about them is horrible.

My brother had one for a week before the sound blew and it fried 2 pci slots also. total junk.

You can save your money for Microsoft Office and use the totally free OpenOffice suite.

I have been using it for a year and I actually like many of its features better than microsofts, and did I mention that it is totally free.

Check here:

http://www.edealinfo.com

and they always have a section on Dell machines. Follow their instructions and they can often find a way to get a few more $$$ off by combining promotions.

I've had two emachines computers and no problems other than a garbage Maxtor drive failing. No matter what you get, do yourself a favor and buy an external hard drive for backups.

I second that!! :yeahthat: I purchased an e-Machines a few years back and the computer was nothing but junk. Something is wrong with them...I dont know what. All I know is that after having the machine for a month...everything moved at snail pace.... crashed all the time because the drivers didnt like the hardware...overall...there were so many driver conflicts... it was the first and only time I have ever seen a BSOD (blue screen of death) on a XP system. After the e-Machines....i learned my lesson and realized you get what you pay for. I bought the machine for a thrifty $400... I should have just thrown the green in the trash...cause that is what pratically what happened. I couldnt take the machine back because I owned it longer than the limit given for returns (best buy) so I was stuck...

Not true........I have had mine for almost a year, and not a problem. Works better than my brothers Compaq.

I am writing this on an emachines desktop that I purchased used from a pawnshop for $200. I've had it for over a year, and despite the best efforts of about nine teenagers and my wife it is still working perfectly. It's a 2.70GHz machine so I don't know how long the previous owner had it, but it did come with a full-up version of Microsoft Office so it's been well worth the $200.

I am using an emachines comp. that I bought at Best Buy. It was cheaper than the emachines at Walmart. I did have to install Micrpsoft office. Mine came with Virus protection. No problems after 1 year.

Pookieboo!!!
A computer is a computer. If it crashes a lot, then format and install what you need on it. All manufacturers just put useless software(unless you are a super newbie) on them that slow things up anyway.

Finishing last
I am a computer tech by trade. E-machines are about as good or bad as any other white box. By white box I mean generic non BIG corp computer. The only real advantage to the big name computers is the tech support. Tiger direct also is a great source for deals on computers and related equipment. Hope you find what your after.

2x... emachines are junk... just build your own or find someone that will. I know a guy that wants to buy an emachine, and I told him simply no.... I told him you get what you pay for... his replly was " It has a 15inch screen, and dvd/cd burner" I prefer to go with quality overy quanitity and if you have been there you will know its not quality
