Email question please??

I have verizon DSL but I use Outlook Express for my email because Verizon times out if I don't send the email within 8 minutes. I'm using Windows XP Home edition on a 1 year old Dell notebook.
I get some emails that I want to delete without reading them so, since many viruses infect computers when an email is opened, how do I set Outlook Express so it doesn't open my email when I select it? Or how can I delete an email without opening it? I have to click on it to delete it but when I do it always opens it.
As always, thanks in advance.

Try a right click....that should bring up a menu where you can choose delete without opening the email or highlight the email and click the X at the top of the menu to delete the message.

Also you can go into tools, then options, then the read tab and set the time it takes for the email to open to like 10 seconds and that will give you time to click and delete.

Try this -

Go to View, Layout... This will open the "Window Layout Properties" window.

Uncheck the "Show Preview Pane" box, and click OK.

By selecting the message without the preview pane, it does not READ the message, you must double-click it to open the message...

The preview pane, by default, displaying a message is the act of reading the message.

This is what hoses 95% of people reading e-mail's and launching viruses, the preview window.

Ok "backagain" I'll try this when I get another new email.
Thanks Mousebaby, I already have it set for 30 seconds but I think it still opens it even though it isn't marked as read yet???
Clevalley, that worked. Thank you! Now I have to double click to open them so one click will allow me to delete them w/o opening them. Now I just hope that no one sends me an important email with a subject line that I don't recognize. Sadly, it's a crap shoot either way. I noticed that "preview pane" before but I wasn't sure what it was. Thanks again folks!
