Email Spam

I get spam that seems to come from a different email address and domain every time, but is always the same thing. It started after I clicked a link in a page I thought was secure, but someone had hacked their way in and posted a bunch of links. The administrater removed the links but it was too late for me. Does anyone have any idea how to stop this? The way its going, I will have to get a new email address.

Not sure how "taping a link" can get to your e-mail address. It sounds like someone got your e-mail address and it is now on a SPAM database. Anyway - if someone could figure out how to stop SPAM - they would make a billion dollars!

Hi Warron,

I understand your frustration completely. It is amazing where these Spam companies obtain your E-Mail addresses from. To date, there is no perfect SPAM blocker. However, there are several pretty good options available that can help you with the high volumes of spam. There are products from reputable companies such as Symantec of McAfee that are designed to remove spam. Are you using Microsoft Outlook to view your E-Mails?

If the SPAM is bad enough, changing your email address may be the only out.

I get hundred's of SPAM messages everyday. The only product I've found that really works is MailWasher http://mailwasher.com/

I've been using the product for years now. I neat feature is you can see the message BEFORE you download any of them to your PC (via you E-Mail program). There are many options for setting up your own filters, etc. It also goes against numerous "anti-spam" databases, etc.

Metrocast seems to capture about 3/4 of these emails and quarantine them, but I still have an inbox with a bunch of quarantine messages every day.

The junk filter in my email is useless as well since every email comes under a different name and domain. Either they are using hundreds of peoples computers as bots to send the emails or they have a ton of email accounts.

"Tapping" a link can download spyware/mailbot. My wife got one that was so bad I wound up reformatting the hard drive. I tried everything. Scans with spyware removal, virus removal, and registry repair all in safe mode. No luck. It would still get in. It grabs your email address and sends it to a whole bunch of spammers. There was another thread about it. Even after I got rid of the trojans, I had to give her a new email address.

Good luck Warron. But don't get a new email address until you get rid of all the spyware, trojans, and other maleware. You may have to reformat your system and reload it. Also, make a limited user and use that user to surf. That way if you click on a trojan link, you will not have privileges to install software or modify the registry. I did that for my wife and it has already saved her a few times.
