Emergency Plea for a gorgeous beagle!

This is a VERY difficult thread for me to start......I am moving to a place that I cannot have a dog. I had to drop my beagle mix at the Charles County Humane Society last Saturday (the 18th of October). He was originially adopted from them and I am (unfortunately) a rule follower. I didn't realize that they euthinized until I was tearfully on my way out the door and overhead a not-so-nice employee talking to someone on the phone. Anyway, if you know someone looking to adopt a totally awesome dog, please read on about him: His name is Lucas and he will turn 5 in January. He is a beagle mix (we think red tic coon hound) He is 40 pounds and in perfect health. His is house broken and can go up to around 10-11 hours. He was adopted at 4 months old by me. I worked at home up until this past June and he transitioned BEAUTIFULLY. I have two children ages 10 and 13 of which he adored, rough housed (nicely), chased, wanted to be chased, hiked, played ball and frisbee and swam. He has never been crated and had the run of an unfenced 22 acre farm of which he NEVER ran away from (I know, unusual for a beagle!). His markings are gorgeous. His is tan and white, tall and lean. He loves cuddling, catching frisbees in the air, hiking, swimming and being chased. Loves the snow. He is an incredible watch dog and loves people so much, but can tell when a "bad" person is around. The only issue I ever had with him was being on a leash. He does better with a harness around his chest when out in public. He is such a handsome fella that when I took him down to the North Beach boardwalk, people would stop me and want to visit with him and ask all kinds of questions about him. My heart is broken and I just want Lucas to find a good home. PLEASE, if you know of anyone interested, have them stop by the Charles County Humane Society ASAP - they are overloaded and I am afraid he might get put down. He doesn't deserve that.....

I will go by and check him out. You should have reached out for help here before turning him in. Lots of folks willing to rescue and foster.

 If he's not at the Humane Society when you get there ask if he has been transported to Tri-County. Hopefully it won't be too late but owner turn-ins don't stand much of a chance and sometimes won't even make it to a run in Tri-County due to overcrowding. He sounds like a great guy. Hope you're able to save him.

OK, now that I have had a million panic attacks - I am calm enough to post again. I have not seen his photo on the CCHS's web site, nor in the Tri-County one. I am stuck out of town, I cannot go get him. I am hoping that they haven't changed his name...PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE SOMEBODY HELP! My heart is breaking in a million pieces.....

Charles County Humane Society usually only updates their page once a week and it is usually on Sundays. I hope he gets a forever home.

Just an FYI, as you now know but others may not -- Charles County Humane Society is a kill shelter (by way of Tri County). Calvert County Humane Society is a no kill shelter.

I pondered and looked for two years and found Lucas' photo on Petfinder.com where he was posted by the Charles County Humane Society. Had I known that they uthinized, I probably would have found a way to Lucas other than through them......I knew the second I saw his photo that I had a match. When I put in my application (he had been there only two days - he was found dumpster diving in Charles County at three months old) I had six people ahead of me! Six!! They all declined him and I was called and given 48 hours to "claim him". He was a hiper little guy, but I fell in love the moment I met him.....he calmed down and was housebroken within three days of me bringing him home. Like I said in my first post - I didn't know they uthinized until I overheard one of their employees on the phone, on my way out the door. I don't need lectures and to be scolded by anyone - I am just asking for a little help in a grave situation!!

Not to worry...I saw your plea yesterday and told a person in my office who is a huge fan of Beagles and she knew someone who was definitely looking for a Beagle so I hooked him up with all the phone numbers to the Humane Society and guess what...He and his wife are #1 on the wait list for Lucas. He has to wait until Thursday because Lucas has to be seen by the vet and get a clean bill of health and then he will be available for adoption. The guy is really happy and so are we not only for him and his wife but for Lucas as well. Sorry you had to put yourself through the worry but please no that is Lucas is adopted by this family, he will be well taken care of and loved very much.

I wonder what the rules are for starting up a no-kill shelter. I thought about it alot. But the cost of land, kennels, food, vet.......

Lucas is very healthy, it should be a breeze. I haven't slept since Friday. I was so afraid that he had already been put down. A lot of people put that fear in me. Let your friend know that it may take him a few days to settle into his new environment. Please keep my e-mail address handy so that if they have ANY questions..... :yahoo:

:yahoo:Great for Lucas. Who knows maybe you can have visitation or at least see him sometime after he settles in.
