My Sweetest Boy
Be extremely careful when purchasing an English Bulldog puppy. BE SURE TO PURCHASE FROM A REPUTABLE BREEDER. These dogs are very popular now and can have very serious health issues.

Buying an English Bulldog Puppy

This information is provided solely to help you make an informed decision when purchasing a puppy. We do not care where you buy a puppy whether it be from us or someone else CHECK OUT BREEDERS THOROUGHLY! Too many people have contacted us with bad experiences so we hope you find this information helpful.

How do I know a good breeder?

I know it is hard to choose with all the choices of breeders and puppies. There are many dishonest breeders and scammers and thankfully many good breeders. If a breeder is serious about improving the breed and not his wallet this is the kind of breeder you want. People that offer "click here to buy now" no questions asked are not good places to buy a puppy. They obviously do not care where the puppy goes so they sure will not care about you if you have problems with the pup now that they have your money. Look for breeders that have had a particular breed for many years. These breeders know the dogs and their bloodlines better than a novice breeder. Knowing particular bloodlines allows a breeder to breed in good characteristics and avoid health and temperament problems.

Do not fall for misleading gimmicks to get you to buy a puppy. One instance is a web site advertising "Genetic Bulldogs". No such thing. This is a big sales pitch to make you think you are getting a better healthier dog. They also claim their dogs are not line bred. Ask for a pedigree on their stud dogs. If a dog's name is in the pedigree more than once it is LINE BRED. His dogs are very line bred. Once again a gimmick or he can't read a pedigree. He also has NOT the breeder of champions like he claims. Ask to see an AKC champion certificate with him listed as breeder... you never will.

Miniature Bulldogs.

again a mixed breed usually a Bulldog/Pug cross. If you want a small Bulldog, consider a French Bulldog. They are purebred and are wonderful little dogs. Reputable breeders will have no problem with you speaking with their vet or people that have their dogs. This will tell you how healthy their dogs are. If price is a deciding factor for where you get a puppy you may want to consider another breed. You get what you pay for.

Imported English Bulldog Puppies

Stop and think... do not buy on impulse. Yes.. all pups are cute but, do you really want to support this kind of money motivated business? The puppies and the new owners are the ones who suffer. The more the importers sell the more they bring over to resell. Please read the links below to the news articles. Do research before you buy a puppy from anyone. There are more importers on the net than ever before.
There are many wonderful and reputable breeders all over the world. Reputable breeders will NOT sell their pups through someone else no questions asked. If you are thinking of purchasing a Bulldog puppy from a breeder that imports English Bulldog puppies for resale here in the U.S. please reconsider. Read the articles below. This is a business to importers to make money nothing else. A lot of these puppies are sick with viruses or other health problems. And you may have a very difficult time getting the pups papers. Most of these puppies are coming from Russian puppy mills or similar European countries puppy mills.
If you want a Bulldog from Europe or anywhere else in the world go to the BREEDER not through a broker (a Broker is a U.S. based website selling imported pups) or internet Pet store. If you believe that all dogs are the same regardless of where you get them Click the back button on your browser to return to this page after looking at the links

SCAMS

You usually cannot buy a purebred Bulldog for under $1500.00. A lot of these scams will say shipping included. Well, shipping on a major airline is at least $230.00 it is more in the Summer time plus you have the shipping crate and health certificate cost. These people are usually in Nigeria or some similar place. Most of these ads are on Puppyfind or similar breeder directories. The scammers steal breeders photos and use them as their own to scam people. You will send money and never receive a puppy. Since these people are usually out of the country you have NO recourse. Ask for at least 4 photos of any pup you are interested in.

What is the difference in different Bulldog breeds?

There are only 2 breeds of Bulldogs recognized by the American Kennel Club as purebred. These are the Bulldog (English Bulldog) and The French Bulldog. Other Bulldog breeds such as Olde English Bulldogge and American Bulldog or Miniature are not recognized as purebred by The AKC. These dogs are not the same as a Bulldog. Olde english Bulldogges are sometimes crossed with Pit Bull. These dogs get much larger than an English Bulldog and sometimes can be aggressive toward people and other dogs. English Bulldogs are very sweet tempered and love everyone.

Common Misconceptions.

Blue eyes in a Bulldog is not good nor is it rare. It is totally against the standard of the breed and some of these dogs are DEAF. BLACK Bulldogs are not more valuable. There is NO rare Bulldog color do not fall for this scam. There is no Miniature Bulldog recognized by AKC as purebred. They are a MIXED breed. If you want a smaller Bulldog get a French Bulldog they are purebred.

What's one more bird?
Wow what a great find!!! I'm certain the adoption fee would be much more reasonable then purchasing a puppy, but even more so to adopt a 4 y/o I would imagine you'd know what/if any medical issues she had that are so common with this breed! That in it self would be a blessing. That really is a find, I would definately check her out, not to mention she's just beautiful and it sounds like she is a fantastic dog!

Rescues are always a blessing... but before you do

it, please make sure you know what you are getting into, I have 2 bullies and while they are adorable and they are cutest things around, they are very expensive, from the vet bills, and just their food. Alot of times they will have coat issues, tear stains, intestinal issues with different foods... mine have been on 1 type almost 3 years with no problems, they switched the formula a little and it's been hershey squirts everywhere... also they sometimes like tasty treats with their food, we lob a couple glops of cottage cheese with his kibble, and a spoonful of plain yogurt everyday to help with the gas issues... and they do have a wonderours gas about them... but they are great snugglers... I would suggest going to BulldogsWorld.com for the Bulldog in you! The Internet's Largest source for Bulldog information. for more information, they have all types of info, medical, traits, training, coat colors, breeders, rescues, and 2 forums one for medical issues, and one for just general issues... we are a tight knit family and everyone is eager to help as needed... there are 2 rescue sites that I know of on the east coast, in this area, you should check them out as well...

HeavenSent Bulldog Rescue
HeavenSent Bulldog Rescue / English Bulldog Rescue and Adoption in NJ

and
Mid Atlantic Bulldog Rescue

Good luck with your search for a bully, they are the best... I would definately check out the bulldogsworld website for breeders if you don't want to go the rescue route, there is a listing of reputable breeders, and if you come across one that is not on the list, if you email the sites webmaster (David) he will let you know if he's heard anything about them (good and bad!!) It's a great source of information about the breed from people who truly love the breed... plus there are tons of great photos posted all the time... we love showing off our babies!!!! :howdy:

Rocky Mountain High!!
For real...
the parents could be mixes of Olde english bulldogges or limited registration on parents.
Either way it's not easy or cheap to breed bullies from insemination to c-section (unless they're american bulldogs)
they'll sell like hotcakes at that price, if they "look" even close to a real one.
Here's my guy Tyko at 11 months old (pix taken yesterday).
We're looking at buying him a fawn/white Russian import wife. :dye:

BTW Suzanne...ALL bullies should be family pets first and foremost.

They're one of the "in" breeds right now so they're being bred without regard for health testing, etc. and they have a ton of health issues but I'm sure you know that.

CKC was the issue I had because they'll register a dog with a picture. :ohwell:

I think they'll always be "in" because they're difficult to breed.

in reality the "in" breeds are the hybrids due to the hybrid vigor that comes from crossing two pure breds. partidoodles come to mind - parti colored standard poodle crossed with labrador - which i think are da bomb and if RC would let me I'd do them in a heart beat!! there is a labradoodle litter in the classifieds pups are selling for 1100.00!! :shocking: they're adorable though.
Now THATs something to think about. No health testing there, and you don't want second generation because first generation genes take over (ie they start looking like big poodles and loose that cute factor).

I guess it depends on what the parents look like in the CKC bullies. If they're ugly, the babies won't be any cuter.
re: health testing in bullies, bullies ARE a genetic anomoly. but there are things you want to watch our for in breeding stock and NOT breed. ie inverted tails, cherry eye, and entropion. but with the entropion, in the good heads, sometimes you see it. most breeders don't care about the eye stuff, they just fix it and go on, because they want that head. i'm lucky my guy is line bred on internationally good stock, all of which have good eyes, and look at his. nice and round, and DRY. no eye issues. but i got lucky with that head of his. it's stunning for the breed at only 11 months old.
the inverted tails are stinky and NASTY. The average person won't know to look for it.
