One of the scariest things is that most textbooks used in the US are written to conform to the warped CA midset because they buy the most books. Get ready to start erasing history because someone, somewhere might be offended.

While I believe it was a mistake to add "Under God" in the pledge in the 1950s, I also believe that the school principal is clueless.

There's nothing unconstitutional about teaching that the Founding Fathers had strong religious beliefs (Christian and Deist), and that their beliefs influenced both the Declaration and the Constitution. As long as the lesson doesn't become promotion of a certain religious belief.

In my experience, most teachers are smart enough to understand the distinction and put it into practice. I can't say the same for the school administrators, most of whom seem to lack gonads in dealing with political pressure from both sides.

In my experience, most teachers are only as smart as their Lesson Planners. If it isn't in the book, they don't teach it.

Those are the teachers who get promoted to principal or to central-office desk driver.

Of course! Because their strict adherence to the Lesson Planner is an obvious domenstration of their ability to toe the line, and hence "manage". :ohwell:

It's not the teachers' fault and it's not because they're not smart enough. It's because they have a standard curriculum that they're not allowed to deviate from. It's not that they WON'T teach true history, it's that they're not ALLOWED to.

They get some dumb kid in their class who can't understand the concept of 1+1=2 so instead of sticking that kid in a remedial math class so the teacher can move on with the other kids, she has to dumb down the curriculum to the lowest common denominator so she won't be accused of "discrimination" or "leaving some child behind".

They get some screwy kid who objects to the word "God" in the Declaration of Independence, so the principal (their boss) makes them quit teaching it. So I feel I must stick up for the teachers because they have a suck job for sure and I don't envy them.

Me neither. Besides the screwballs on the left, how about the screwballs on the right who want mandatory Bible distribution in schools and Biblical creationism taught as fact? Some school board members in Charles County have been pushing these.

They're wrong too. Both sides need to reject what the extremists in their partys are doing. Republicans tend to reject or ignore the extremists (not always). Democrats tend to promote their extremists (i.e. Michael Moore).

True that. :peace: Sometimes it's embarassing being an instructor thanks to people like this.

In this California case, the teacher WANTS to teach the Declaration...it's the principle that won't let him...so he filed suit!
