Livin' for the Dream
This is amazing!

People are getting killed in this war?!?!? I can't belive this has ever happened in history before. i think that there were "peacetime" killings of citizens in Iraq when their unjustky removed leader was in charge. The fact that there have been deaths in wartime is just unforgivable! :sarcasm:

Of course, the Iraqi government - whose opinion for some reason isn't regarded very highly in this matter, disputes the numbers.

I mean, who you gonna believe? Some guys who've always been against the war, or the people actually in Iraq?

...but I kept looking over this link, re-reading it in fact, several times, because I had this wild thought that I might find and it might be relevent to include the figures of those killed by the prior leadership of Iraq. Kind of a 'the way it was' vs. 'the way it is' kind of thing.

Does that make sense or do the millions dead prior to this accounting not count the day we stepped ashore?

Nah. How could that possibly help make sense of all this?

Well lets just highlight a few items from this article shall we??

The survey was carried out by the UK-based Iraq Body Count and Oxford Research Group - which includes academics and peace activists.
Peace activists?? Now they wouldn't be biased would they?? :duh: Survey?? Who did they survey? So this is based on peoples opinions, not facts!! :lalala:

The Iraqi government criticised their conclusions, saying Iraqis were most at risk from terrorists who target them.
Imagine that. The country suffering the casualties disputes the findings. Smart country!!

The Dossier on Civilian Casualties in Iraq 2003-2005 says 37% of all non-combatant deaths were caused by the US-led coalition.
Based on a survey conducted on who? Proof it was caused by the coalition please....

But killings by anti-occupation and criminal elements also increased steadily over the entire two-year period.
What say you liberals??

"The international forces try to avoid civilian casualties, whereas the terrorists target civilians and try to kill as many of them as they can," it said in a statement.
Again, what say you libs??

"The root cause of Iraq's suffering is terrorism, inherited from Saddam's fascist regime and from mistaken fundamentalist ideology.
You mean the guy we unjustly removed from power?? Nooooooo......... say it aint so!!

More than half of civilian deaths were caused by explosive devices
Ummmmmm....set off by who???

Our data has been extracted from a comprehensive analysis of over 10,000 press and media reports... Our accounting is not complete: only an in-depth, on-the-ground census could come close to achieving that
Ok, which is it? A survey or media reports? We all know how fair and balanced media reports are... :duh:

The IBC wants to see an independent commission set up in Iraq to give the best estimate of civilian deaths and full details of how each person died.
Of course you do because you don't know!!!

This is good....

I got red karma, unsigned, that said "no good reason" in response to my question of why reports of death and destruction in Iraq wouldn't be compared to the Saddam era.

No good reason.

Damn if that doesn't speak volumes.

I've yet to figure out the whole karma thing, so I'm neither a giver or carer about it. Speak your mind, and until karma has a real impact on your life, who gives a crap about it.

You need to spend your time worrying about how you're going to settle your 2008 bets with me, not on some stupid karma. :spank:

It's a good word, it just needs a definition. Sounds like something jazz could use.
