WOW!

ESPN, Turner in talks to exit NASCAR early - SportsBusiness Daily | SportsBusiness Journal | SportsBusiness Daily Global

Never before, in modern history, has a television partner said they don't want to air a sport through the remainder of their contract. If NASCAR doesn't intervene and work out a solution for Fox Sports 1 and NBCSN to air the race next year, this could be bad for race fans.

Read article and sounds like a bunch of dogs fighting over a bone . Fox will come out ahead

ESPN and TNT are out at the end of 2014 and then the "old" TV deal is new again with Fox getting the first half of Sprint Cup and Nationwide and NBC getting the second half.

TNT's been trying to get Fox Sports 1 to buy out the remainder of their contract for months. That's no secret to anyone. I posted a while back that TNT might not be back next year - and this is exactly what I was eluding to.

All ESPN wanted was the Chase. They were trying to reach a deal with NASCAR where they'd get the final 10 Sprint Cup races and that's it ... and NASCAR desperately wanted to stay on ESPN. But NBC came to the party with $4.4 billion. ESPN backed out and NBC walked away with everything that was on the table.

TNT had zero interest in re-upping with NASCAR. They only air six races, the ratings are horrible and Turner no longer has NASCAR.com and digital media rights.

NASCAR needs to get rid of the identical car, let the teams and manufacture's put their best car out there within specs, and let them race. May the best car win, and if that best car wins week after week, so be it. It can only make the teams and manufacture's try harder to get better, fast.

NASCAR is very boring now, and has been for a few years.

They need to run more short tracks. #### Chicago, Kansas, Texas, Indianapolis, California and Michigan.

Shorter tracks and trading paint is more interesting, for sure, but you have to have a nice mix of higher speed tracks as well.

Just take off those darned restrictor plates, and if they soar, so will the ratings.

Unfortunately, the carnage plate races are the highest rated races.

On another note... TNT's ratings were the lowest NASCAR ratings in 29 years? :faint:

Make them double header weekend races. Make the Cup teams run the "oval" and "roval" road race course tracks at the same location on the same weekend.
Daytona, Indy, Charlotte, Kansas, Texas and others all have both configurations of their tracks.

Roof flaps, greatest innovation in the history of racing. Side aprons, safer walls, HANS devices, etc. NASCAR doesn't need restrictor plates anymore.

Sure, it's a dangerous sport but so is driving on the beltway. The difference is, driving on the beltway has not made me a millionaire.

Probably not. But for anyone to make issue of it; even the drivers; NASCAR will just argue that restrictor plates are just an added safety measure. They might also find the sound byte by D.W., who quoted Dale Sr.. I think the quote was something like, 'If they don't slow these cars down; someone is gonna get killed.'

With the advances in the Cup cars, can you imagine how fast they'd be going at plate tracks without them?
