Esther 7:1 So the king and Haman went to Queen Esther’s banquet, 2 and as they were drinking wine on the second day, the king again asked, “Queen Esther, what is your petition? It will be given you. What is your request? Even up to half the kingdom, it will be granted.”
3 Then Queen Esther answered, “If I have found favor with you, Your Majesty, and if it pleases you, grant me my life—this is my petition. And spare my people—this is my request. 4 For I and my people have been sold to be destroyed, killed and annihilated. If we had merely been sold as male and female slaves, I would have kept quiet, because no such distress would justify disturbing the king.[a]”
5 King Xerxes asked Queen Esther, “Who is he? Where is he—the man who has dared to do such a thing?”
6 Esther said, “An adversary and enemy! This vile Haman!”
Then Haman was terrified before the king and queen. 7 The king got up in a rage, left his wine and went out into the palace garden. But Haman, realizing that the king had already decided his fate, stayed behind to beg Queen Esther for his life.
8 Just as the king returned from the palace garden to the banquet hall, Haman was falling on the couch where Esther was reclining.
The king exclaimed, “Will he even molest the queen while she is with me in the house?”
As soon as the word left the king’s mouth, they covered Haman’s face. 9 Then Harbona, one of the eunuchs attending the king, said, “A pole reaching to a height of fifty cubits(b) stands by Haman’s house. He had it set up for Mordecai, who spoke up to help the king.”
The king said, “Impale him on it!” 10 So they impaled Haman on the pole he had set up for Mordecai. Then the king’s fury subsided.
a. Esther 7:4 Or quiet, but the compensation our adversary offers cannot be compared with the loss the king would suffer
b. Esther 7:9 That is, about 75 feet or about 23 meters
Oh my..... I bet Haman's wife and friends don't have a lot of "advice" now.
This is from the enduringword.com site.
Then the king arose in his wrath: The king was filled with wrath; probably because he now realized that Haman had played him for a dupe in getting this decree to kill the Jews in effect.
Will he also assault the queen while I am in the house: For all of Haman’s pleading, he only got himself into deeper trouble – now he was accused of personally assaulting Esther!
A Jewish writing says that the angel Gabriel pushed Haman, so he fell on Esther’s couch just as king Ahasuerus was coming back into the room.
And this is from the easy English site.
When the king returned, he found Haman near Esther. Perhaps he did not really think that Haman was attacking her. Haman was not so foolish. Haman was asking Esther to save his life, but he went too close. Perhaps he fell. But the king was very angry. Now the king had an excuse to punish Haman. The king could not easily punish Haman because he wrote the law to kill the Jews. The king had given Haman authority to write that law.
Servants covered Haman’s face. He had to die. The servants’ action probably shows that they knew that. The king and Esther probably did not know about the gallows, but Harbona knew. Maybe Harbona did not like Haman. He spoke words that he thought would please the king. He was right. Now it was easier for the king to punish Haman. The king ordered them to hang Haman on the gallows that Haman had prepared for Mordecai.
God had changed the situation. Mordecai got the king’s reward that Haman had wanted for himself. Now Haman got the punishment that he had wanted Mordecai to get.
I have hinted.... pointed to... or alluded to the fact that Persia and Iran are on the map in the same place. This morning... the cruelty of the king.... impaling Mordecai..... like a popsicle..... just begs a comment. So I googled it and "got questions" popped up. The guy who writes the commentary for "got questions" is a Messianic Jew. He knows his Bible. This is what he wrote about the role of a nation that would hang its enemies on poles like popsicles.... not nailed to a cross like an ornament.... but impaled.... up the butt out the throat with a 50' pole. There are several biblical prophecies of the end times that mention Iran, called Persia or Elam in the Bible. Given the fact that Iran is often in the news as a nation seeking armaments (possibly nuclear) and repeatedly issuing threats against Israel, students of Bible prophecy are taking note.
Iran’s involvement in the end times will be as one of the nations involved in the battle of Gog and Magog, which probably occurs during the first half of the tribulation. Ezekiel 38:5 specifically mentions Persia as an ally of Magog/Russia. Other nations included in this coalition will be Sudan, Turkey, Libya, and others. This vast army will come against Israel, who at that time will be “a peaceful and unsuspecting people”.
The outcome of this end-times invasion is predicted: God supernaturally intervenes, and Gog’s coalition is utterly destroyed. “On the mountains of Israel you will fall, you and all your troops and the nations with you. I will give you as food to all kinds of carrion birds and to the wild animals” (Ezekiel 39:4–5). Iran, allied with Russia, will think their invasion of Israel is a sure victory, but God has different plans. In protecting Jerusalem, God will send a strong message to the world: “I will make known my holy name among my people Israel. I will no longer let my holy name be profaned, and the nations will know that I the Lord am the Holy One in Israel”
I use to work for a software company in New Carrolton, MD. We made the software that the Federal Government used to track it's affirmative action and harassment complaints. This was back when we typed "win" to open windows. It's been quite a while. Anyway... one of the ladies who worked with me.... was Iranian. Her family fled from "the supreme leader" Khomeini. The people of Iran have a "supreme leader" and they impale their enemies on poles like popsicles according to the Bible. Nasty stuff..... my friend described some of that stuff.... nasty....
