Ethanol Free Gas?

I've just bought a house in Lusby, and will be moving down from the Annapolis area. I like to use ethanol free gas on small engines (mower, weed whacker, outboard, etc) because the ethanol is brutal on those carburetors, especially when they aren't used often and the gas (in the engine, or in the tank in the garage) has time to go bad. In Annapolis, there is a marina that sells it at a bit over $5/gallon, which is a pretty good deal.

Are there any sources in Southern Maryland for ethanol free gas?

Thanks,

Harry

Both are a fairly recent development. But in addition, there is Korner Carryout and Ridgell Oil, both over on 235, just south of where it merges with Rt. 5
You might want to clarify that you are speaking about northern St. Mary's or he may end up messing with @TPD down south. :yay:

Won't dispute any of that, but if you're not using a product like Sta-bil, you should be. Sta-bil Marine (green color) works very well. Between that and running the carbs dry after use, I haven't had a carb issue in 20 years.

If you feel like a side-trip, Murphy's Express in Dahlgren also sells alcohol free fuel.

sailingharry...fellow blowboater here in Solomons (with an old school gas Atomic4 in his boat). As People's Elbow noted, the Wawa at Rt235/4 has E-Zero, and a few others too. As Gilligan notes, The Korner Karryout at Rt235/6, and also Ridgell's in Mechanicsville, on Rt 235 just south of Loveville Rd has it. As Sneaker's notes, depending on how much you burn, it might be worth the trip to Murphy's. I've done all of the above. My personal opinion on E-zero is I only run it in my boat, and I make sure all my small engines are winterized with it.

The Sheetz at the corner of Chancellors Run and 235 has it as well.

What octane do Sheetz and Wawa sell? Does Ridgell's still have 92? Outboard motors can be finicky, especially the older 2-strokes. I believe Korner Karryout has 87 non-e gas, but it's still better than corn squeezins regardless.

I was told that you can mix water with ethanol gas and wait for it to separate. The water is supposed to mix with the ethanol and remove it from the gas. I haven’t personally tried it, but the theory sound sane.

That doesn't sound right...
Chemistry wise it does work. Ethanol is fully miscible in water so as long as you use more water than the amount of ethanol it should remove all of it. As far as the octane level, yes you’re going to have to add an octane booster.

Ridgell's sells 90 Octane E-Zero. At least that what was in the tank the last time I was there. Not sure if it changes.
My old boat motor is 6.3:1 compression...I have no need for the high-octane stuff, but it seems to burn it just fine... 👍

Thanks! I had a little stumble on the top end with my old Suzuki DT75 the last time I ran it. I'm pretty sure I had 87 in it. I'll swing by and get some from Ridgell's and see if it doesn't clear up.

If you need high octane then get the avgas at the airport, I believe it’s 100 octane. The odd thing about avgas is that it’s still leaded.
