They’re the staple of people’s after-drinks diets across Europe, but the humble doner kebab could soon be outlawed. Legislation has been put forward by the European Union that would make them illegal because of the phosphates that they contain.

They don't want to outlaw doner kebabs. They want to outlaw the use of phosphates as a preservative in meat. They will just have to find other preservatives to use.
