Matthew 6:1 “Be careful not to practice your righteousness in front of others to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven.
2 “So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. 3 But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, 4 so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.
I can just hear the rants now.... "I give faithfully to the church.... I give faithfully to the poor.... why just the other day I let a stranger wash my windows and I gave him some change.... I've a very generous man!"God knows what you do..... He knew you were going to do it before you were born into this world.
We have "free will" you say..... so God does not know what we will choose..... but He knows because He knows the future as well as the past.... so He knows what you will do before you do it.
Those who give so others will "respect" them..... are "respected" here on earth.... but God is not impressed.... when was the last time you hung on a cross to help your neighbors?
Besides.... what we Americans know as "free will" went out the window the other day.... when they overturned Roe v. Wade. We can choose what to do in our lives.... as long as those who "give" us our laws say it's ok.
I can hear them now..... "I have to do it.... everyone is watching".
