Christian Couple Beaten and Chased From Mosque

On February 10, Musli(m) Christian converts, Jemmal Abdo and his wife, were beaten and chased out from a mosque where they both worked in the capital city of Addis Ababa. According to The Voice of the Martyrs contacts, "Jemmal and his wife accepted Christ two months ago. Soon after their conversion Jemmal's friend saw him talking with Christians and told the imam of the mosque. Jemmal and his wife were interrogated in the mosque during a meeting called by Muslim leaders in an attempt to persuade the couple to recant their faith. The couple refused to do so, even after the leaders offered them higher positions and salaries if they denied Christ. The couple was beaten and dragged out of the mosque." Jemmal and his wife were able to flee to a new location for safety. Pray for the speedy recovery for Jemmal and his wife, who were injured in the attack. Ask God to strengthen them and provide for them as they stand strong in their new found faith in Jesus Christ. Isaiah 54:17

 Why would someone who is not muslim continue to work at a mosque, where they are not welcome?

If a Southern Baptist converted to Wicca then continued to enter the church, you can bet they'd get the same treatment as these people got.

It was disrespectful for them to enter the mosque. They knew it, but did it anyway. The muslims saw it as an insult to their god, and it is completely understandable for them to get mad.

Maybe they didn't deserve to be beaten, but given the violence that is a way of life in that part of the world, they're extremely lucky to be alive today.

It looks like a case of religious discrimination in the work place. The article said they both worked at the mosque. I know, at least in the US, that you have a right to work anywhere you want and not be persecuted for your religious beliefs, as long as it doesn't affect your work. I don't know if they were prosthletising (sp) or trying to convert other muslims but if they were simply doing their jobs, then they should have been left alone.

I have to admire the conviction and courage though. I only hope that if I were in that type of situation, I could be as strong in my faith.

Churches in the US are allowed to exclude employees based on religion. They are private, not for profit organizations, and they can hire (or not) anyone they desire. They can even discriminate based on race or gender. You can be sure there are no Catholics cleaning the Mormon temples, or vice versa.

If your church/mosque/temple is considered to be sacred ground, and your belief dictates that only believers should enter that sacred ground, why should non-believers be allowed to enter?

Get beyond the :yay: christian :boo: muslim thing and turn the tables here. If a christian church fired a muslim couple, would you be supporting the muslims? Would you be comending their faith?

They are awful lucky the wernt killed, and if they continue to live in the same area they probably will be. One father had his daughter killed for attending an american college. Another for dating an american and disgracing his family, her three brothers actually committed her murder.

Muslims are converting to Christianity in their thousands in France but face exclusion from their families and even death threats.

Most Muslims hide their conversion and Protestant ministers do their utmost to protect new converts. It is estimated that every year in the world some six million Muslims convert to Christianity.

The Muezzin call to prayer. But here in France it is no longer reaching all Muslim ears.

Around 15,000 Muslims each year are converting to Christianity - around 10,000 to Catholicism and 5,000 to Protestantism....

Many Muslims in France hide their conversion but the trend is continuing. World wide around six million Muslims a year convert to Christianity.

My answer is going to be pure speculation on my part as all I can do is guess. I'm guessing this couple continued to work at the mosque because they were afraid what would happen if anyone found out they had converted to Christianity and/or they did not want to lose their jobs. Their friend told the iman of the mosque that the couple had converted either because he was a true friend who was worried about their soul now that they were no longer Muslim or he was not a true friend and wanted to expose them. MMDad is correct that the Muslims were insulted to have Christians working in their mosque and this couple, having been in the Muslim faith, knew this. Did the punishment fit the "crime"? By no means - it was excessive. I wish them good luck and more wisdom in their future.
