And actually, he didn't give YOU anything. You rent, remember? So why would you care about home sales?

Actually I agree with Patch here. There are now FEWER renters out there to vie for our rental properties! Crap!

...Patch wasn't reading for meaning, he was simply appalled and reacting that there are still fools out there buying, at all. So, he was just trying to say that there are less fools, putting a happy face on it and looking at the bright side.
Once the shock wears off that there still are some fools out their buying homes, of all things, it will dawn on him that it still makes it even better for him, supply and demand. Pretty soon, rents will go to, probably, zero or landlords may actually pay him to 'rent' from them.
Before long, he'll be in a $10 million home and getting paid to live there.
