SPOTSYLVANIA, Va. - A judge on Friday convicted a former high school special education teacher with having a sexual relationship with two teenage students.
Bonnie Sue Davis, 36, entered an Alford plea to two misdemeanor counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor. The plea means Davis doesn't admit guilt, but acknowledged that the prosecution had enough evidence for a conviction.
Davis, who used to teach at Courtland High School but has since resigned, took the plea agreement because it was in her best interest, defense attorney Peter Greenspun said in a statement. She received a 12-month suspended jail sentence.
A 15-year-old student had said he had sex with Davis on several occasions, and a 14-year-old said he kissed Davis. Davis denied having any sexual relationship with either boy.
Davis was taken to jail after her arrest in March and will not serve any additional time.
Under the terms of the plea agreement, Davis will no longer be allowed to teach in any public school in Virginia.
She entered her plea in Spotsylvania County Circuit Court.
