Exodus 18:13 The next day Moses took his seat to serve as judge for the people, and they stood around him from morning till evening. 14 When his father-in-law saw all that Moses was doing for the people, he said, “What is this you are doing for the people? Why do you alone sit as judge, while all these people stand around you from morning till evening?”

15 Moses answered him, “Because the people come to me to seek God’s will. 16 Whenever they have a dispute, it is brought to me, and I decide between the parties and inform them of God’s decrees and instructions.”

As I was reading the verses this morning, this is what came to mind. I am the oldest of five kids and my mom required a lot of respect. During the holidays things got even more tense. So I spent a lot of time taking care of children, settling squabbles, picking up their mess, feeding them, and much much more. Most of the time my sisters and my brother stood around waiting for me to do something. "Mom said" was my call to action. I was either telling them what "mom said" or I was doing something for them because "mom said". It started when I got out of bed in the morning and it didn't end until they were all bathed and in bed. That's what comes to mind when I read these verses.

According to the easy English commentary, Moses was getting tired.

Moses was making himself very tired. He was trying to do everything without any help. Many of the people wanted to see Moses. They wanted to hear his decision about their problems. They had to wait for a very long time. And they were becoming very tired as well.

It's called "burnout".
