HOUSTON - Exxon Mobil Corp. on Friday posted the largest annual profit by a U.S. company — $40.6 billion — as the world's largest publicly traded oil company benefited from historic crude prices at year's end.

Exxon also set a U.S. record for the biggest quarterly profit, posting net income of $11.7 billion for the final three months of 2007, besting its own mark of $10.71 billion in the fourth quarter of 2005.

The previous record for annual profit was $39.5 billion, which Exxon Mobil reported for 2006.

Andy you still don't understand??? After all the Exxon record profit threads that have been on here the last two years??

Good for them they are providing a product that is wanted by the American public and making money off of it like any good buisness should do. Look at their % of profits and tell me that, that is so astounding!!!

It is not the oil companies that we should be complaining to about high gas prices.

Andy, do you have a 401k? Pension plan? IRA? Mutual funds? Interest bearing bank account?

If so, you are most likely one of the people gaining from this profit. Quit whining and be happy that your investment is paying off.
